For those who regularly travel from Sydney->Auckland, what is the typical economy fare price? I'm leaving on May 31st and was wondering if I should book now through Air New Zealand which is offering a $179 AUD fare or if I should wait for another deal to come along. Also, do any other airlines besides Qantas and Air New Zealand fly the Sydney->Auckland route? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yup that is a good price. You didn't state if you were flying one way or return.
There are a number of other airlines flying Sydney - Auckland. They are: Emirates, Thai & Royal Tongan. I am sure I have missed a couple!!!!

I'll be flying one way. Is this still a good price?

The cheapest normal fares have been AUD$450 return including taxes. Some short lived special fares have ben less,
If $179 includes taxes it a good deal
Taxes are about AU$80-$100 for a return Au-NZ-Au. Au has a $38(?) departure tax which is paid as part of the ticket price. NZ's departaure tax of NZ$25? is paid in person at the airport

Air NZ recently ran a special for A$79 each way, plus taxes (A$86.66).
The total price for the return trip was A$244.66. If you can afford to wait for another special like this then you'll save $200 off every ticket. As other posters have mentioned, there are plenty of carriers doing this segment. The price wars for flights between AU and NZ are hotting up. I expect to see another special sooner rather than later.
Good luck!
