Air New Zealand Air Points - American Express Rewards = AirPoints no longer?

It appears as if American Express are terminating their agreement to convert Rewards points to AirPoints from the end of 2004.

Anyone know why?

Just speculating, but presume its because Air NZ didnt want to participate in Amex's direct ticketing option. Or if they do sign up Air NZ to direct ticketing (say in a few months), then they'd want to keep it exclusive rather than giving customers the option of going via Airpoints.

I hope something gets resolved otherwise I can see some big transfers coming up.

'cos the AmEx Airpoints earning rate is far better than the alternatives and people have been rorting the offer until it screams for mercy.
