Hello all:
I will be in the country soon.
Feb. 6 (Fri) NZ 3 LAX-AKL (13:35-23:20+1)
Feb. 23 (Mon) NZ 6 AKL-LAX (16:20-07:15)
Other than being in AKL and the region for about a week, I am still going through a list of the cities/areas to visit. So many places to visit, and so little time!
Would love to get together with other FTers for a beer or 3. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I am happy to buy some Steinlager to Kiwis or other FTers.
I still need to finalize where to visit in NZ. I was thinking about Roto, Waitomo, Bay of Islands, and Taupo. Or Milford Sound and Queenstown in Southland...
Any suggestions?

While Steinlager is okay, personally I dont rate it up there with some other local beers. Eg Macs - thankfully NZ stock these in their lounges http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

All good spots to visit. It really depends on what you're interested in, how long you have, when you're over here, etc. If you can give us some pointers to help out? Also try looking at the Australia South Pacific forum in FT Travel (http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forumcgi/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=Australia+%26+the+South+Pacific&number=23&DaysPrune=100&SUBMIT=Go) - there are plenty of great suggestions there.

I'll add to the thread of the new BP, once I have completed NZ2 on my return, assuming I get a 74R.
Yes, a little nuts!! I am going to Taupo to surprise my Dad for his 75th on the 24th. Have an old school friend in WLG, so I will go straight there from YVRLAXAKL to have lunch with him, then to TUO to surprise my father the next morning.
I called NZ to reserve seats on NZ5, got 11A, so a good C seat, I asked about rows 1-3, the lady said they were blocked off. I am hoping that as long as I am one of the first 12 to ckin and ask for an F seat, I may get one.

Now you got me confused, KF.
In this thread from March (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=649082) you said that "NZ has changed the rules so that for NZ operated flights under NZ flight number, the NZ earning table applies even for mixed airline itineraries", so why would I not get the 630 airpoints for LHR-LAX vv. as I am flying on NZ 1/2 and not UA?
Kiwi Flyer
Aug 7, 07, 1:32 am
I could be mistaken but NZ switched the rules around. Instead of allowing all NZ flights to be on the higher earning chart they reverted to NZ-only itineraries on higher chart, mixed itineraries on the lower chart, and added to the lower chart some extra (higher) earning rates for NZ operated flights on selected routes (NZ<>Asia, AKL<>LHR,HKG<>LHR).
1.1.6 Airpoints Dollars earned on Itineraries involving only Air New Zealand Operated Qualifying Flights are calculated in accordance with the Airpoints Dollars Earned on Air New Zealand Chart. Airpoints Dollars earned on Qualifying Flights that are a combination of Partner Airlines or Air New Zealand and Partner Airlines are calculated in accordance with the Partner Airline Earn Chart.
Apologies for the confusion. Unfortunately FFPs do not keep things the same, nor do they always announce the changes. Keeps us on our toes!

Aug 7, 07, 1:56 am
Thanks a lot for clarifying! I assume it does not make any difference that the FRA-LHR-FRA flights on LH are ticketed with NZ flight numbers? I was hoping that NZ would consider them airshare flights which are treated the same way as NZ operated flights.
Kiwi Flyer
Aug 7, 07, 2:01 am
Unfortunately not in your case. Airshare is quite distinct to everyday codeshares. AFAIK airshare (for the purposes of Airpoints) is limited to Aircalin to Noumea, and Eva to Taipei.

FWIW - yes TG do use the koru club for their late night departure (TG980?). They were happy to let me in.
However, expect a deserted lounge - there are about 6 people in here tonight. Incidentally it looks like they REALLY cut back for the TG services, none of the NZ wine is out, the majority of beer is gone (have a choice of Tui, Hahn, Monteiths Original, and Steinlager.... I came in for a cheeky Monteith's Black!)... so while it is *VERY* quiet and *VERY* calm (the loudest noise is the fridges), it's also pretty barren...

Also, does it have to be a revenue ticket or would a UA MP award ticket in business (which it is:)) still allow me the 1 guest privilege?
Someone has told me of this benefit on Flyer Talk but I can't remember which thread. Try doing a search? But it's not a published benefit from the NZ website.
It doesn't matter how you got the ticket (paid, award or upgrade), as long as you have a business class boarding pass then you will be allowed a guest.

Search as I may, the only thing I can find is another post by Kiwi Flyer from 2007:
Huh? Business class does not entitle lounge access for a guest. *G status does entitle lounge access for a guest (or flying *A in F).
Also the *A website notes the privileges for business class travellers in its "Benefits" "Lounges" section (http://www.staralliance.com/en/travellers/benefits/lounges.html)
Lounge Access for International Business Class: Customers who present an international Business Class boarding pass, regardless of the Star Alliance carrier they fly, have access to all members' designated business departure lounges. Guests are not permitted.
Hmmm.....
AH!! Found it!
Yes, and yes. Prior to having status I did this a few times in both directions (WLG-AKL-LAX vv), and was welcomed into the WLG lounge with my guest, who was on the same flight (but not in business). The official rules permit it; as long as the guest is also on an NZ operated service.
I really wish I'd taken a copy of the "Official Lounge Entry Guide" that I saw in NAN in 2005. It explained all of this very well.

Argh - not this chestnut again! I can confirm I brought guests several times pre-status when traveling J (on upgrades and revenue tickets). It's not written anywhere on the website, but the agents will happily let you in. You must be flying NZ metal and using a NZ lounge. Just for fun I'll even email NZ about it right now.
On to the meat of the thread:
Oct 14: NZ38 HKG-AKL
Oct 20: NZ513 AKL-CHC
Happy to guest in either location.

Here is the answer from Air New Zealand Premium Team:
Dear AJ
I have a copy of the "Lounge Entry Access Chart" here, and it does state
that a passenger travelling in Business Premier with Air New Zealand
does have the ability to take one guest with them into Lounge. This is
however subject to space availability and the guest must have a boarding
pass for the same flight.
If it is your self travelling as you are a Gold Airpoints Member you
have the ability to take one guest with you into the lounge - even if
you are not travelling in Business Premier.
I hope this has answered your questions, if you have any further queries
please do not hesitate to call our Contact Centre on 0800 737 000.
Kind Regards
Hopefully this will settle the confusion once and for all. :)
Edit: Lounge Access Chart is available here (http://www.airnztravelagent.com/PDF/KoruLoungeAccessChartFeb2009.pdf)

Thank you. Now that I have changed to NZ 5 from AC's SYD flight, I don't need the room for the outbound, but may need one for the return.

Not sure if this is the right thread for it but I had to say both my better half and I throughly enjoyed the Trans-tasman services with NZ102 on 767 with AVOD (massive screen!) and plenty of leg space for Y. NZ707 is on 737 but still with fantastic AVOD and lots of leg space. Looks like I will fly NZ more often!

I get into AKL at 0059h (QF133 from MEL). After clearing NZ incoming security, even at reasonable "worst" I'd be out at 0200h.
Sure, don't mind meeting up! Can't see myself sleeping at AKL. (Then again, maybe I will....) Only downside is that KC doesn't allow non-flying visitors (let alone will it be open early enough in the morning), and Dom QP doesn't open until 0530h (i.e. 30 min before my departure, certainly too close for comfort for yours). Only other haunt I can think of is QF Premium Check-in; can't recall a cafe etc. that's open in the stark hours of the morning.

Not sure what time the cafe/mcdonalds etc opens in the domestic terminal, but I'm reasonably sure they were open when I was there the other day before 5am. Otherwise it may be possible for you to stay inside security as a transit pax and go to the QF intl lounge, but I'm not sure how you'd go about getting back out of security again considering you're now on the departures side.
As for my upcoming NZ flights, currently scheduled for the following (only about half of them are confirmed):
<flights removed, most will be changed to different dates>

I highly doubt that'll be possible (at least from a rationalising point of view). In addition, access to Int'l QPs require an ongoing BP or flight, of which I do not have.
There is a video arcade in AKL I - that should keep me awake for a bit. :p

WPs can access Intl Business lounges at any time, and Intl First on the day of travel on any oneworld flight AFAIK, so as long as you're able to get inside security, you're allowed in the lounge :)
I'll have a look around and see what's open when I'm waiting for my flight to SYD on Thursday :)

Being greeted each time by name and handed a NZ Herald ^^
Also, small things like being given a whole 375ml can of diet coke and not just a measly cup of it .... NZ has lived up to the promise and beats the inconsistent QF hands down.
The domestic flights are prety good too.
