Air New Zealand Air Points - First time to AKL/SYD...a few questions

Going to AKL for three days in October before continuing on to Sydney. Never been before (to either city) and had a few questions for those of you that have.

Peticularly for Auckland, where is a good place to stay? (It's for leisure, not business) Hyatt a good choice? Anything more local/non-chain?

Staying at the Four Seasons and W in Sydney...those good choices?

Lastly, and good suggestions for restaurants in either city?
