Emma, the current potential Mrs Jongar and myself will be passing through AKL next month, arriving from MEL about 3pm and departing for RAR at 8pm. I want to pick up as much cloudy bay as I can in the interveingin period

Can we do this without incuring depatrue tax and any suggestions easy to get to to get wine and snaks for RAR

As transiting pax, you will be able to get exemption sticker. I presume at the transit desk (never had the need myself!), which is on the right hand side of the pier heading towards customs & immigration.

There is a shopping centre a couple of blocks towards town (10 minutes walk?). Includes a Foodtown supermarket. See here for map (http://www.auckland-airport.co.nz/Guide/airport_plan.php)

There is also duty free wine at The Cellar, Regency and DFS. All should have Cloudy Bay and other nice wines http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Enjoy the tranquil Cook Islands.

The exemption stickers are issued at the same Bank of New Zealand AKL airport windows that issue the $NZ25 departure fee stickers. Present your inbound boarding pass along with your outbound boarding pass to show you were in the country for under 24 hours to avoid the fee.

However if all you wish to buy is some snacks and Cloudy Bay, you might be able to find everything you need without even leaving the international terminal airside area -- that way you can skip having to go through entrance and exit immigration, customs, security, etc, and there's no need for any type of sticker.
