Latest tasman express smart saver fares (http://www.airnz.co.nz/bookingsandoffers/specialoffers/new_year_tasman_fares.htm). On some routes, tax is more than the OW fare!

Its probably all due to Virgin as Pacificblue (http://www.flypacificblue.com) starting flights into and out of Christchurch in early March

Both QF and Air NZ have lowered fares in particular to / from Christchurch, which happens to be Pacificblue’s NZ base

Undoubtedly a factor, as is the increase in number of airlines and capacity serving AKL-SYD route. Speaking of which, I wonder how much Emirates is affecting NZ? Does anyone know?

However Virgin has said AKL is not a priority at this stage. IIRC first flights are CHC only. WLG and HLZ to follow. DUD, ZQN and a couple others floating around as speculation.

AU$450 RT (including taxes) MEL-AKL on Emirates are easily obtainable. For 21 Jan (tomorrow) F4J4Y4M4B4K4H4Q4L4V4 (4 the max they show). Looking at EK web site they would sell me a $450 RT for tomorrow. Even the cheapest V fare is still available for tomorrow

Little EK adverting on this on the Tasman.
Would think EK having little effect on Air NZ & QF
