Air New Zealand on May 21 announced the expanded code-share agreement with Air Canada. However, this seems to be in limbo as time is running out for Air Canada.

The planned code-share expansion sees ANZ code-sharing on AC's YVR-YYC/YVR-YYZ/YVR-YUL.

Hmmmm... this realy demonstrates how the Star Alliance is in bad shape financially. I wonder how much the financial woes of its partner airlines will affect NZ? It occurs to me that NZ, despite its own shaky state, might actually be just about the most profitable *A airline in at the moment! Think about it:
UA and AC are in bankruptcy protection, as is prospective *A member US Varig is in deep financial poo with planes being repossessed BD, LH, SK, NH and even SQ are announcing losses as SARS takes its toll I don't think TG has made a profit in years Austrian Airlines Group was profitable in 2002 (ie pre SARS) but only to the tune of 41.4 million euros, and one can only assume this will decline as the SARS impact hits I don't know how Mexicana, Asiana and Spanair are doing.
Suddenly, a projected NZ$200m profit is looking pretty d@mn impressive!

Well atta, despite SQ's very recent losses, don't forget at the end of their financial year in March, they posted a profit of almost $1bill with the airline itself making up nearly $700mill of that figure! Be a long time yet before SQ sees any sort of long term red ink near any of it's books. Even with the current situation, they are gloomily and glumly predicting a profit for the airline of "only" $350 mill for the current FY. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

People flamed me when I referred to Star Alliance as "the bankrupt airline network for Earth." However, the truth of the matter is that many of the Star partners are either on or very near the brink of insolvency, bankruptcy, or outright collapse (and lest we forget, AN collapsed altogether a couple of years back).

UA and AC are under creditor protection, and US just came out of BK a couple of months ago. For all intents and purposes, RG is bankrupt, and NZ is destitute. SQ has to contend with a business that depended on a cash flow which does not exist at the moment, and LH seems to be spinning its wheels to no effect.

Thank you for choosing Continental Airlines, a proud member of the SkyTeam Alliance.

AC obtained concessions from all its unions. These now have to be ratified and then its on to the creditors as the re-structuring continues. Immediate threat of ceasing ops has eased.
