Air New Zealand Air Points - Tight Connection in AKL, Can I make it? CNS->AKL->LAX

I currently have reserved a flight on July 29th that takes me CNS->AKL->LAX. The problem is the CNS->AKL flight is scheduled for arrival at 19:40. The AKL->LAX flight is scheduled to leave at 20:45.

Both flights are on Air New Zealand. Does anyone have an idea of what my chances of making this connection are? I've never been to New Zealand, so I have no idea how large the Auckland airport is.

I will be flying in coach and this will all be booked on a single ticket. Thank you for your input,

Ben

I would think you should be fine with this connection, but I am not too familiar with the CNE-AKL route, so I can't say for sure how often they are on time. I suspect it is quite often however, and AKL international is not very big compared to some of the larger airports in the US.

Auckland's International terminal has all of 10 gates. International pax arriving at AKL walk off the jetway in to a common area for both departing and arriving pax -- arriving intl pax aren't separated off as is common at most US international terminals.

NZ110 to NZ2 looks like a valid connection. And while irregular ops sometimes occur, because all your travel is on Air NZ and all on the same ticket, Air NZ should be motivated to help look out that you and other such pax make the connection.

The 'legal minimum connection' from NZ110 to NZ2 is 55 minutes - therefore, if you should miss your connection through no fault of your own, you will be reaccomodated. Relax! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I'm sure you'll have a great time. If you are going to be down under during winter Cairns is definitely the place to be http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I can fully recomend CNS and Port Douglas as a place to visit! Also in my experience the flight back from CNS to AKL arrives into AKL about 20-30 mins ahead of schedule, you should have no problems!

Cheers,
Jetkid

Thanks again for your replies. My trip will be taking me first to the Cook Islands for about a week, then Fiji for a week.

After that I fly to New Zealand and have a 21 day tour package lined up.

Once my time in NZ is up I'll be flying to Melbourne and meeting a friend from Bendigo for a couple of days. Then a 19 day tour that goes from Melborune to Cairns, and probably a couple of extra days in Cairns.

I am quite excited about the trip! Glad to hear that Cairns will be nice. I'm hoping to do some snorkeling http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

If interested, I will be flying:
CID->ORD->LAX->NAN->RAR->NAN->AKL->MLB (Ground) CNS -> AKL -> LAX -> ORD -> CID

Thank you again!

Ben
