Hi Jongar

your mum will certainly be able to use the Sydney lounge if she is departing on AirNZ in J (or any other *A carrier in J, as per the *A rules), she doesn't need to be *G. The SYD lounge is great, the best in AirNZ's system IMHO. There are 5 or 6 internet PCs, a good selection of sandwiches/snacks/cheeses/cake and drinks, and it's bright, spacious and usually almost empty. Also, I don't see why she can't use the lounges in CHC and AKL if she's flying J - these lounges are open to NZ business class passengers regardless of *A status.

Cheers, Zac

Zaco is exactly right! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Also I concur that the SYD lounge is easily the best in the NZ system, gret food, internet, excellent showers and even a children's play room!

Is there an Arrivals Lounge for Air NZ in SYD or for any other *Alliance carrier?

If not, would it be possible to use the NZ lounge upon arrival to take a shower? How many showers are there? Is there usually a long wait?

Depending on the time you are arriving, there is also the SQ Kris Flyer lounge (who seem to be grumpy about letting *Golds in unless flying SQ) or United RCC (i think only about perhaps 11-2pm or so for the two flights leave to US - SF and LA)

At SYD the arriving and departing PAX are seperated. Consequently one can only get to the lounges which are on the departures level if one is connecting to another international service. If you are leaving the airport in SYD then I am afriad you are out of luck as they wont officially let you up to the departures level.

They dont usually ask for proof of onward carrige at the security check which connecting PAX have to pass through (and the transfer counters are past the security check anyway) but should you go upstairs to go to the lounge you will be stuck, and it will require a lot of explanation to actually get you out.

(edited because I haven't been doing my spelling homework)

Okay, so I'm arriving SYD on United, in biz class. I have a 2-1/2 hour wait for my s.o. who's arriving same airport on Qantas. Can I use the ANZ arrivals lounge?

NZ does not have an arrivals service. But I think United does. So why not hang out in the arrivals service by United.

Note at Australian international gateways you must clear customs and cannot be let back into the lounge. It is a totally separate track.

1. you must be on paid or FREE biz ticket to use Arrival by United .. i.e. not an upgraded ticket.

2. It 'used' to be at the Hotel fairly nearby (The old Sheraton, now renamed) so if that is still the case, you need to leave airport, and a hassle getting back thru security etc.
