Air New Zealand Air Points - 767 Y-class w/ old business class seats?

Hi!
I flew NZ 66 (AKL-NAN) on 24th May (I think it is 767-300). I found out that seats 15 and 16KJ were really big with big pitch. It looked like that they might used old C class seats for that airplane (I can not confirm old c-class seats or not as it was my first time flying NZ).
When I flew NZ50 from NAN-LAX on 1-June, the plane (767) had same pitched seats through out Y-class cabin. I believe it is one of a kind but was wondering why did they put such nice seats in the middle of the Y-cabin? Also, do they stick with that odd configuration or just temporary arrangement?
BTW, I found that even the normal Y seats were much more comfortable then other *A and other US cbased carriers' seats.

Hmm..
Your flight from AKL-NAN was operated by 767-300 ZK-NCL, whilst 763 ZK-NCN operated NAN-LAX.
Both of them are 767-319s, NCL being delivered in 1997, whilst NCN was delivered in 2000.
Very strange.. I can't think of any reason why the two would be configured differently!

Yes, I was quite surpirised to see only two rows on one side of the planes (star
It was not full business class seat (I checked in front to see if they are same but they ere definitely not the same). The seats had darker colour and they had foot rests which had thigh/leg support (unlike the one in Y classes) and the pitch were much larger to accomodate that seats. The width of the chairs, however, are not much wider then rthe regular Y.. Maybe some problems with regular seats and NZ replaced them with old C seats (i do not know how NZ's old c seats looked like)? But question remains, why didn't they use normal Y seats?
15JK and 16JK are crew (FA) rest seats. For AKL-NAN presumably these are not needed and hence the partitions are removed and the seats can be assigned for general seating. For NAN-LAX, the crew rest seats will definitely be needed and I guess they would have fixed a partition around the seats as well.

Ah, no wonder they have nice seats.
So, I suppose that NZ does not use empty C seats for employee class.

No, they don't.
If an employee wants to get on a flight that's full in Y, NZ will upgrade the most elite frequent flyer on board to C, so the employee get's Y.
And I think that's the way it SHOULD be!

Indeed! Unfortunately, many airlines do not do that http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
