I need some clarification for those who are NZ frequent flyers.
I performed a itinerary exchange a couple of days ago (via mail) via the LAX office. My old ticket (issued in April) was a SYD-ZQN roundtrip for July on QL14RT which has no penalty if if it used as a credit towards a higher fare. I changed my itinerary to SYD-ZQN and HKK-SYD (both for July) return under the next higher fare of HL10RT. Imagine my surprised when I was charged an additional collection which was $23USD more than the difference between the value of my old ticket and the fare reported by nz's website.
A second call to reservations yield information that was not given to me by the agent who booked my current flights. I can only upgrade to the HL10RT fare that was in effect on the date my original ticket was issued and not the HL10RT fare that is in effect when the change to my itinerary was made.
Is this how exchanges are done at NZ? Thanks.
