It would be clearer (and better marketing) to say there are nonstop SYD-LAX flights available on NZ.
Because UA, AA and some other of the world's largest airlines tend to use "direct" when they can't say "nonstop" they've muddied the term "direct" to the point that it's a warning word to some pax. All direct means to many these days is that travel between two cities is on a single flight number. There may be stops involved or even a change of aircraft.
Anyone who protests that they (or their airline or most of their fellow countrymen, etc) typically mean "nonstop" when they say or write "direct" would be missing the point.
While they might not be someone who immediately thinks "not nonstop" when they hear or read "direct", their audience or customers might. It's clearer to simply use "nonstop" rather than direct if the flight does not stop anywhere en route.
I wonder if the phone center folks in New Zealand who now handle the calls from North America get briefed on such things.

Apologies for my momentary lapse.
Quokka is absolutely correct. I meant to say Air NZ fly direct NON-STOP services SYD-LAX and vv.
Can the forum ever forgive me? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Will this return to becoming a daily service soon? Possible involving Mel? Or am I simply dreaming?

Not on Sats! My choice on the day I'm flying (On a *A RTW) is really UA or an extra 8 hours going via AKL. No good connections http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/mad.gif
So - when are NZ bringing in the new First product? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Alex
