I have a few pine trees outside my home, and I think the biggest one is around 30ft tall.
Is there a gizmo/tool to install Xmas lights on them?
I used to do the lasso thing with the lights, but they were much smaller then.
Now it is just plain impossible.
Any suggestions?

Do you have small children you can send up the tree?

Any self respecting gadget loving man would use this oppurtunity to rent a cherry picker.

No kids, I could send my cat, but then I would have to call the firemen to get him down http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/redface.gif

While they're up there, you could ask 'em to put up lights.
I second the cherry picker motion.
Construction tools are cool... http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/biggrin.gif

OK, are cherry pickers gadgets or construction tools, or both.
I don't think I've seen a cherry picker, they do have the cherry festival in NM, 200 miles away from here, but never seen one in action. So, there won't be any available in El Paso http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/frown.gif
Isn't there an RC helicopter or light blaster a la "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" out there?
If you momentarily change the gravitational constant of the universe, then you will be able to put the lights up with little trouble. When you're done, just reset the constant to its usual value.

Please provide ample warning if this method will be implemented.

Find a local Ham radio guy and ask to borrow the slingshot they use to shoot antenna's over tall trees. toss up a line, and pull the lights over, repeat as necessary.

Believe it or not, a friend of mine is a Ham radio operator, what are the odds on that http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/eek.gif
I don't think he will agree to dismantle his antenna to help me set the lights http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/frown.gif
my father used to use his front-end loader. He would position it where he wanted it, then shimmy up the frame to the bucket. Time consuming, but hey there isn't much happening on a farm in winter...

There are 500,000 hams in the country, so it's fairly good odds
They don't dismantle anything, most of us (though not me) have some contraptation for shooting lines over trees, if he doesn't he certainly knows people who do. You shoot fishing line over the tree, then pull some mason twine over, then pull some heavier rope over, then pull the lights over.

No - that's where you're wrong. Paintballs and water cannons are both effective.
