MilesBuzz! - Did LatinPass kill the promo becuase of Today Show?
I find it odd LatinPass decided to pull the promo the day it was aired on the Today Show. LatinPass must have gotten advance notice they were going to be spotlighted on national TV Monday morning. LatinPass posted their deadline for enrolling the day before the segment ran and a posting for the pudding Guy on the 18th warned everyone to sign up for the promo right away!! Do you think this is a coincidence or not?

I don't think that there is any question that the combination of the WSJ article and the Today show segment caused Latin Pass to adopt the cutoff on the promo. Fortunately, they did the right thing by allowing all current members to complete it, rather than truncating the actual period to complete it (which would have left them with a big lawsuit on their hands). As it is, I don't see any real basis for anyone to sue them for imposing this limitation. As someone else (maybe Rich Lond) posted in another thread (and speaking completely selfishly), I am glad that they did it. It increases the chances that my Latin Pass miles will actually be usable if the cost of the promotion isn't so great for the airlines because of fewer people doing it.
After all, just imagine what would have happened to Healthy Choice had Pudding Guy gotten all that publicity 3 and 1/2 months prior to the end of the Healthy Choice promotion.

I am aware of one person who signed up for the promo on their website on the 19th at 10:30pm West coast time. The rules state membership is instant when done on their website. Due to the time zone difference, the LatinPass computer located on the EastCoast logged the enrollment at 1:30am, the 20th of March. When this person called to verify her membership, was told she did not qualify becuase she enrolled on the 20th and there was nothing that could be done. The posting by LatinPass did not state by midnight on the 19th, East Coast time---only that they had to be enrolled before the 20th!!!!!! This person followed the rules and should qualify but LatinPass is saying no way.

Same thing happened to my wife! She registered on the internet at 11:30Pm on the 19th! Now Latinpass swears she registered on the 20th, and won't budge! They're really quite inflexible...so much for simpatico!

I have to say I am glad for everyone who registered. I did not think of registering early for this... and was hit by the cutoff. I therefore will only fly American/US Airlines in Latin/South America. So United, here comes miles..... I am kind of surprised and shocked how LATINPASS gives a 2 day notice to everyone. But hey, it only shows what they do. Since they are honoring the HHONORS transfer, I would recommend it... since you do not know what these miles will be able to do in a year.. if the program dies.. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif*(

Yes. The same thing also happended to me as I registered two of us BEFORE the deadline but was told they received it at 12:58am on the 20th (58 min too late). Although it will probably do no good, I will be writing to the Director/President of LatinPass, whom they told me is:

I too mentioed that no deadline time was given on the 19th, but was told 'sorry'. Do you think Randy might intervene with LatinPass on behalf of FlyerTalkers who followed the rules?
