Here's my story of frustration with MCI:
12/14/01: I moved to Virginia from Washington, start new phone service, sign up with MCI for 5k AA miles offer.
1/13/02: First 1k miles post
2/12/02: Second 1k posts
3/13/02: Third 1k posts
4/13/02: Fourth 1k posts
5/13/02: Fifth and final 1k posts
(this is pretty boring so far, eh?)
6/02/02: Adelphia Cable company calls and offers me a month of free premium cable and cable modem access (about $90 value) to switch to their long distance service. No monthly fees, only .07/min so I switch.
7/01/02: MCI calls and is depressed that I left them for some crappy local cable company. Offers me 10,000 miles, no monthly fee for 6 months to come back!
10/15/02: I call MCI to ask inquire about no bonus posting. Miles for long distance are posting so I know they have the correct AAdvantage number linked to the account. Agent clicks and clacks her keyboard for 5 minutes and I am told the miles will post within 30 days.
11/27/02: Still no bonus. Supervisor Amy looks into it. After putting me on hold 12 minutes, tells me that no bonus was listed for my account but she fixed it. Wait another 30 days for miles to post. Arggghh!
1/03/03: No bonus miles. I call and get an agent that speaks maybe 40 words of English. Fortunately, he understands "supervisor please" and transfers me. Supervisor Danielle apologizes so much that I am concerned she is slipping into depression and will commit suicide on her coffee break. At least she sounds like she knows what she is doing. Sets up a three way conversation with another MCI lady who is in charge of entering mileage info. She also waives the monthly fee on my account for another 6 months.
1/29/03 No bonus miles. I call MCI and ask the agent about a terrific offer with Sprint and Alaska Airlines. I mess with her mind for a while telling her how the Sprint agent said so many people are switching to Sprint because MCI never posts their bonus miles. After getting the point across that I have no more patience and my bonus mileage problem needs to be resolved TODAY or I will switch in a week. After 7 minutes on hold, she said the supervisor told her that my miles will post on the next cycle due on 2/7.
2/7/03: I turn on my computer, head over to AA.com and log in. I do a double take and almost fall off my chair. 6k miles of the 10k have posted. Since the switch back to MCI happened 6 months ago, I am satisfied with only 6 of the 10 posting at this time. However, if the next 1k doesn't post in 30 days, I'm not going to waste any more time with these bankrupt losers.
I can only wonder how many people never get their bonus miles because they forget, don't have time to call MCI, etc. What a sad way to conduct business.
