One has to wonder who are the travellers being targeted by SQ in their "offers". Would FlyerTalkers pay for for an fare with miles?
If SQ is targeting people travelling for work reasons, wouldn't offering say, double miles, be more attractive to (whether Y or J)?
I suppose SQ is confident they can attract business travellers (convenience of schedule, level of service, onward connection to Asia, etc.), so this type of offer is aimed at the leisure traveller from the mid-West.

Normally SQ would have a fare that is say $100 more that would accure miles, so when one is already committed to flying with SQ, they wouldn't think of switching carriers.
But we know better, right?

Note from NL: here in NL, these same tix (starting AMS of course) cost just 399 or 499 euro PLUS all taxes (another 80-90 EUR).
Who's the winner here?
Thse are non-miles fares, another 100 or so will give those 8k or around.
Same applies for AMS/FRA-NYC
