Is there a dress code in First Class ?

What do you wear in F ?

Anything that you feel is appropriate really, as long as you're not actually travelling in J and hoping for an operational upgrade into F (in which case, you might as well not hold your breath).

But shorts and sleeveless t-shirts do tend to raise a few eyebrows. Whether you should care about that, is up to you really.

And it's certainly not a DJ/black bow tie occasion like the QE2 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif

If I travel with clients, full dress suit or business casual (depending on which client and how uptight they are). If I travel for pleasure, I will usually wear jeans, boots and a shirt... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

for any flight out of singapore, you will find me in a Saville Road linen suit, and an Armani egyption cotton open neck shirt. that is more a question of dealing with the humidity of singapore. Otherwise youll find me in a pair of chinos and a rugby shirt or open neck shirt (usualy Thomas Pink)

Hope that helps

Where whatever you feel comfortable in, especially if you are flying longhaul. Yes, you may get some stares in yoru jeans and sweatshirt, but don't let that bother you. I find how you conduct yourself rather than how you look, will get you good service.

From my limited experience you will find almost everything ranging from a formal suit&tie down to shorts and T-Shirt in F BUT with a little bit more style than in C/Y (especially the few women).

Now thats only true until they hand out pyjamas (CX/SQ) or one-size-fits-all sweaters (LH). After that anyone looks ridiculous.

I am just off LH 738 from HKG in First. I have done many many F flighs on SQ and LH in the last 12 months and have NEVER seen anyone there wearing a tie. Today in LH, out of 11 people 8 had sneakers on, one person even walked through the cabin in his under shorts.
Actually airline employees frequently are required to wear a tie when travelling in F but they usually remove as soon as they are in the plane

Thanks for your response everyone!

I resume that I should wear comfortable clothes, formal is not necessary.

....and Uli, I promise that I don’t walk in my underwear through the cabin http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Two things leap to mind:

First - where is this Saville Road? I have a few suits tailor made in Saville Row (Zegna handmade are just out of this world), but is there new competition ;-) ?

Secondly; I never ever get a on plane in a suit - I find changing in toilets in the air isn't my style (too much turbulance can make this deeply unfunny). I always hunt for places on the ground.

As for the F question; smart casual never goes badly in any cabin class IMHO.
Regards,
Alex

Wow, someone who can still afford Zegna (even if they they can't spell it on the second attempt). Ermenegildo does make a fine jacket ... maybe the best in the world. I'm hanging onto mine, but can no longer justify the cost now that it is in 4 figures (thanks to the Euro conversion).

What a Hoot. I am sooooo (not) impressed with 'name/brand droppers'.

FWIW there's probably a Saville Road in every village in Britain, and more than a few here in the U.S.

Whatever looks best with my pink feather boa and gold (sometimes silver) mules. Nail polish *must* match lipstick! And ruby is the new maroon, dears.

If I'm feeling particularly daring, it's a tight spandex leopard print catsuit.

When I'm with clients it's usually business casual, sometimes a suit and tie, but I never fly with clients.

Virgin will give you an op-up with that outfit. Doesn't work with SQ, though.

Well to compensate - I can't type http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Seriously; my first port of call when I need a suit is HKG (Not a 24 hour place!) or SIN. Fine, I have few nice suits from Saville Row; but when it comes to wearing stuff day in, day out - I'd far rather walk around in something where I don't have to worry about beer spillage et al...

And for those of us who are undergoing a sense of humour failure - I'm adding a disclaimer to first post; all was deeply tongue in cheek (sic!).

Regards,
Alex

I agree the prices off the rack make my heart skip a beat or two. Compared to the rest of the tailors on Saville Row however; ypu'll find they are very competitive in the handmade market.

depends on my mood, but most usually t-shirt or shirt in the summer and sweater in the winter... but always baggy jeans with airwalks, etc... all my friends think I look like I belong in Y class instead of F... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tongue.gif

Basically what ever you feel comfortable in and which is not illegal in the 3 countries (origin, airline, destination) involved.

Zegna makes a fine suit. Their Wool/Cashmere blends are wonderful, and their shirts and ties are very fine.

I will admit, that I found a tailor who was formerly employeed with Zegna and Brioni, now living and working in Bangkok. He imports the fabrics from Italy (and a few other places) and from the same mills. He has made me several suits to my specifications and they look as impressive as the aforementioned names.

He can handtailor a suit in about 7 days, with about 9 fittings. The price is very reasonable and affordable (to me, with my budget.)

To keep this on topic (UA), if you are going to do a mileage run, go to BKK get some shirts/suits, spend a few days, and get some miles too! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Does that mean my pink leather dungarees from Versace, (with mink trim!), would be inappropriate..

Oh well, I'll have to find another excuse to wear them! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Ahhhhhh,

I am presently in Bangkok and travel here frequently. I know Bobby and have had clothes made by him.

Are they good value and reasonably priced? Absolutely.

Are they Saville Row/Armani (white label)/Zegna quality? Hardly. Not even close. But at $300.00 a shot, it's kind of hard to expect them to be.
