We are planning our family trip to HKG for Chinese NY. We were hunting for good hotel deals and found this site planetholiday.com. We made reservations for multiple rooms and for about 10 days. We were asked to provide credit card info plus credit card photocopies faxed to them in order to hold the rooms. Is that normal? Does anyone know anything about this site or have other suggestions? Thanks for helping this newbie!

Most online travel agencies in Asia would require credit card details for room guarantee. If you do not check-in or cancel your booking, one night room rate will be charged to your credit card. Usually, they will require you to input card details into their online secured website or through faxing a copy of your credit card.

You may also wish to visit these 2 websites that are generally efficient in securing hotel rooms (based on my past experiences making booking with them):

a) www.asiatravel.com (http://www.asiatravel.com)
b) www.asia-hotels.com (http://www.asia-hotels.com)

Do note that some of the special rates require you to make direct payment to the agents via the website.

Happy searching!

PH practices some arcane business practices as for example requiring you to fax a copy of your credit card to guarantee payment. They're legit as far as I can tell and I've even used them before but this was many years ago when hotel web booking was at its infancy and such unusual requirements were tolerated. Unless their price advantage is that significant, I'll stick with more conventional sites like the previous poster suggested. They too are legit.
