Hi,
I have an upcoming CX F award to HKG and JNB using AA miles. On the leg back to HKG, I have a seperate/nested CX Y award to SIN and BKK using BA miles.
1) Will the CX agents in JNB be able to check my luggage through to SIN?
2) Will the CX agents in BKK be able to check my luggage through to LAX/CMH?
On a previous conversation with the CX phone agents, they said 'yes' as long as I show both tickets.
Does anyone have first hand experience of having succesfully done this?
Thanks guys,
Gene
ps - I'm also hoping that if they can do this, even though on seperate tickets, that the agents will be nice and consider it as one ticket in terms of lounge access (i.e. let me in during my layover in HKG and then when leaving BKK) ?????

If u have both tickets in hand and the connection is less than 24 hours, yes. It's done quite often. I've interline bags several times. KHI-BKK on CX with a 2 hour connect BKK-SIN-FRA on SQ. The CX check-in at KHI was able to check my bag all the way to FRA. Since u r dealing with CX to CX, it's not even interline, so u'll have no problem with the bags provided the connection is less than 24 hours.
Access to lounges will depend on your class of travel on the DEPARTURE DATE. If u are flying BKK to LAX on the same day, then I'm sure u have a case for lounge access at BKK even though u are travelling BKK-HKG in coach. But if u r flying BKK-HKG on a different date from ur HKG-LAX segment, then u r out of luck at BKK.

Thanks for the quick answer seawolf!
All the connections in question are within a few hours of each other. So hopefully no problems then with baggage or lounges. Here's hoping http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I don't know the answer but just see something maybe an issue: Your US-based award use the 2 pc system while the asian award use KG system (20kg?)... if you have more then 20KG... will this be a problem?
(P.S. I have this with AA when I have a domestic ticket segment -50 lb max- connecting to the international segment -70 lb max-.. the agent wanted to charge me excess for that domestic portion)

That might depend on the agent. My friend did EWR-DXB on MH and DXB-KHI on EK as two tickets. The DXB-KHI segment is limited to 20KG.
The MH phone agent insisted that the US limits apply even to the DXB-KHI segment as long as the connection is less than 24 hours (despite being two separate itineraries). I was skeptical. But when my friend took the trip, the MH agent at EWR checked it thru to KHI and EK didn't ask for excess charges. On the way back, the EK agent checked it to EWR and didn't ask for excess charges either. Then again, YMMV
