Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Jackie Chan Greets CX Passengers from NRT and KIX on Arrival at HKGView Full Version : Jackie Chan Greets CX Passengers from NRT and KIX on Arrival at HKG PresRDC Aug 13, 03, 10:56 am Pretty funny press release and photos from the CX website. http://www.cathaypacific.com/intl/aboutus/press/0,3845,31342-95718,00.html SHADO Aug 13, 03, 11:10 am Oh man, that would have been TOTALLY awesome to meet Jackie Chan! **AHH!!** [This message has been edited by SHADO (edited 08-13-2003).] jkc22 Aug 13, 03, 11:57 am He's very short in person. Met him and took photo with him at YVR once, and saw him other times in YVR and Whistler as well. YVR Cockroach Aug 13, 03, 1:13 pm Looks like the man will sell hisface to anyone. http://www.hmyairways.com (apparently he is a close friend of the H.K. Tobacco owners). Darren Aug 13, 03, 7:42 pm still think its pretty cool... Carfield Aug 14, 03, 9:22 am About Jackie Chan, I only have one comment -- he is disgusting... I read the press release and find it amusing. Some of the comments he made recently concerning couple important political issues in Hong Kong bother me. I don't see what the big deal is. Can't help to reply to this thread!!! Carfield pegasus8228 Aug 14, 03, 10:04 am too bad i also hate jackie chan, and his films....all so shallow. though i never care what these people say about politics. dont expect a ronald reagan to emerge in places like HK's movie market Darren Aug 14, 03, 4:17 pm And God only knows that American actors would *never* say something political and expect people to give it credibility becuase they are celebrities... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif SHADO Aug 14, 03, 6:07 pm C3PO: It's against my programming to impersonate a diety. bkong Aug 15, 03, 5:25 am Originally posted by Carfield: I don't see what the big deal is. Agreed. Although I realize that Tung Chee-hwa's charm alone won't be enough to do it, it chagrins me that Hong Kong turns to Jackie Chan to market itself. Nevertheless, this development won't keep me from going back to visit when I get the chance. Shareholder Aug 15, 03, 8:12 am This is interesting. Chan is featured in ads for a small new Canadian airline, HMY, which flies primarily domestic and transborder. He is shown smiling -- ala John Travolta/Qantas -- wearing a pilots outfit with a glamorous female FA on either side of him. While I would feel comfortable finding him sitting in First Class on one of my flights, I certainly would worry if he was dressed in this outfit and walking into the very "front cabin". HKBong Aug 20, 03, 11:41 am I really dont like the fact that people criticize all the time. Certainly he might not be the best looking or best actor, but look at what he has done for many of us. He is brought us laughs and has given back to Hong Kong and his fans. I would be honored to meet someone as big hearted as he is. Do you know any movie stars that would go to Africa to help people out? I think not. Dont hate on such a great hearted guy, you should hate on those who arent willing to meet their fans and do good deeds. SHADO Aug 20, 03, 1:44 pm I love Jackie Chan! He also is in lots of pain from all the injuries he has suffered doing the stunts and films the way he wants them. There was a 30 minute documentary on Mr. Chan shown on CX last March 2003 and he pointed out all his injuries he suffered. He's a great hero! I hope I get surprised in the magical city of Hong Kong! Maybe he and Kylie can meet me at the same time! SHADO Carfield Aug 21, 03, 12:09 am Well, I respect all your opinions, but personally I got to hear some "mini" parts of his personal life through a reliable source and found it rather not amusing and heroic. Also, his comments concerning a number of political issues including the security laws really upset me. So I am a bit biased... Anyway, I am sure the Japanese tourists love Jackie Chan. Those women are really in love with him. I guess it is a good publicity stunt for CX. Let hope CX will bring someone I like next time on my arrival! Carfield PresRDC Aug 21, 03, 10:23 am I think that's the point. CX is trying to drum-up business and part of that effort involves remarketing HK to the world. Since Jackie Chan is, arguably, HK's best known celebrity (internationally, at least), it makes sense that he should feature prominently in the effort. Steve M Sep 16, 03, 9:35 pm He's not only a pilot, but a captain no less. Impressive! ak333 Sep 17, 03, 2:30 pm Actually, Jackie Chan was on my LAX-HKG flight a couple of weeks ago (in F of course). He came in to J to check out the magazine selection. For those interested, he was wearing his "J.C. Wear" sweats. He did *not* greet us as we were disembarking in HKG. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif |
