I asked this question via a tag to another similar thread but there was no response to the inquiry, so I decided to create my own 'header title' post. Sorry.
Im interested in knowing CX's bump policy out of NA in general, and out of LAX specifically. Am currently booked in J out of LAX shortly - and F and Y are already zeroed out completely. At the moment, there are precisely 9 seats left available for sale in J.
Im curious for info from FTers as to what CX might offer in terms of VDB on 881 LAX-HKG in all classes, but especially what they may offer to F and J. I am assuming that an oversell in F would be extremely rare w CX, but not so sure about J.
Does anyone have any recent experience in this regard? What was offered and how was in handled? Thanks.

See this thread. Similar answers.
CX releases seats each day as the day gets closer to flight time. They must retain a certain number of Y and J seats for their Marco Polo Members who are guaranteed seats in those classes.
But basically, unless you have status of any kind, you are not considered for any kind of upgrade.
Marco Polo Members - right down to Silver will be considered for Upgrades before any other Oneworld members. The computer will decide who gets the UG.

9 is the max the airlines show on CRS as bookable. They may have more than 9 available but will only show 9. You don't really know how many is actually available unless you have access to CX's internal systems.

Ahhh, now you're making assumptions. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Sorry I wasn't clear. I do. And am comfortable with the number quoted. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
So can someone answer the question? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Wasss CX's F, J, and Y policy for DBC? I don't find dollar/vouchers amounts mentioned anywhere. Thanks.

I'm told that CX doesn't oversell First Class, so unless the aircraft is downgraded to one with less seats, CX probably don't have to worry too much about finding F class seats for confirmed F class pax.
I don't know how it works, but I think it might be at the discretion of the Manager on Duty as to what type of compensation is offered. For example, LHR was once offering Y class pax on the 254 (later flight) a reconnection via Amsterdam to pick up CX in J class to HKG. Another time was bumping them down one day to the next LHR flight, and upgrading them to J. In AKL, I know some Y pax which were bumped and paid cash in hand equal to roughly 50% of what they paid for their return trip ticket (with no accommodation or food provided as the pax in question lived in AKL).
So I guess it depends on the circumstances, and maybe the Duty Manager has some flexibility too.

Just wondering if CX would offer compensation to those who would take a VDB from FC. I am booked in FC on a flight in 4 weeks (a lot can change int hat time - outbound flight next week that was F0A0 is now F4A2) the current inventory is F0A0 but J9D9 - only flight to that flight's final destination for the day. I can take a flight only 1 1/2 hours later that goes to an intermediate stop (my trip's end point). Not willing to do it for free (don't own CX anything) - might be a win-win for both parties if CX offers something as the seat is worth quite a bit to them.

No such policy exists. You would have to ask for bargaining with airport Duty Manager. They would have to look at your ticket, status and if indeed if there is anyone on waitlist for first class with a higher fare basis than yours.
Not much point to give you something for your seat if they have to lose revenue by upgrading someone from J.
