Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - B777-300 J class seats HKG-CMB?

Hello,
I did a search and came up with only one thread regarding this subject, but that was more biased toward the A330, hence this thread.
I'm flying HKG-CMB-HKG in J on a 777-300 in both directions. I currently have 14AC (no B seat?) HKG-CMB and nothing pre-reserved for the return.
Of course, I'm looking for suggestions for best seating in the cabin. What about the mini 2-row cabin, with rows 19/20 only?
Does meal service start at the front or back of the J cabin? (Like FEBO on AA)
Any guidance you can offer would, of course, be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

I quite like the mini cabin - row 19 on the bulkhead is good as there is no one to recline in to you, and service doesn't suffer. The only real risk is noise from the bassinet seats in the Y cabin immediately behind. The BKK - CMB leg has light loads in J (well it has done the 3 times I have done it), and I’ve been invited to come forward every time.
There is no B seat in the forward cabin – the arrangement is 2-3-2 (check out www.seatmap.com). (http://www.seatmap.com).) I don’t have any strong preference about seats in that cabin – the middle might be preferable as you are furthest away from the fore and aft galley, but the crew do their best to keep the noise down. Again, the bulkhead (row 11 iirc) is good for the avoiding seats reclining in to you. If you call CX, they will be able to assign seats for you on the return.
The flight back from CMB is pretty horrible. It’s about a 3-hour sector to BKK, at which point you are woken up for the descent. Thankfully, there is no need to get off the plane. The lounge at CMB is VERY basic - little more than a fenced off area in the terminal with a few sofas. You get one free drink, and that's it. Boarding is very entertaining, as J pax have a seperate bus to the plane. The last time i went through I had the bus to myself and then queue jumped the Y class bus at the plane. Presidential treatment!
Food is the normal CX regional fare – good quality with a decent wine list, but lacking the theatre of the long haul service i.e. main course in a casserole dish rather than plated up in front of you. Service is from the back, but no need to worry about running out of food – I’ve never had it happen to me yet in a CX premium cabin. As a OW Emerald, you can also look forward to the ego-enhancing personal greeting from the ISM!

14AC and 14HK are my favorite seats on the 777-300. Have never sat in the second J cabin so can't comment on 19/20.
On my CX 777 flights meal service has always been front to back. Also the forward rows generally seem to get more attentive service than those farther back. If they are using the forward door you are also among the first off the aircraft.
On the outbound you might want to go back and take a look at 19/20 and see what you think.
As you know FEBO only applies to meal selection. AA still serves all meals from front to back no matter the flight number. Meal choice won't be a problem on CX.

Thanks for the responses guys, it's appreciated.
To the person who e-mailed me, thanks for your responses too, but your e-mail was threatening and intimidating. Just because I'm a moderator in one forum does not preclude me (or any other moderator for that matter) from posting in other forums.

..Get a life and go back to AA and their bullsh*t.
Since you are a jerk on the AA forum, I strongly advise you keep your flying on AA. If you are trying to gain miles flying
CX, you have some bloody nerve cursing other users who fly CX for the same purpose in your previous posts. You are not a
moderator on the CX forum, so please stay away.</font>
Sending me something like that, for just asking a couple of simple questions is unnecessary, especially when in addition to your FU*K OFF TO 777Brit e-mail at the weekend. So, shawnflannigan@comcast.net, please, leave me alone.
B Watson, please close this thread as it wont be productive. Thanks.

My few experiences on the BKK-CMB-BKK have found loads heavy in the J cabin, but since most pax are sleeping to\fro on this flight, you'll be well-attended to service-wise and FEBO shouldn't be much of a concern (in other words, I can't recall if it was FEBO)

Great info folks, thanks a lot!
I'll be connecting to the CX flight from BA First (LHR-HKG), so hopefully we'll be pretty rested after that trip. I'm hoping my CX segments LHR-HKG-LHR in F clear the waitlist before travel, so I can fly CX instead, as I've never flown them before.
Thanks again for everyone's input. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

One highlight too of these BKK-CMB-BKK flights on CX has been the live camera on the underside of the plane turned on during landing and takeoff. Great views of the golf course when you're arriving into BKK, and you get to see how close the pilot lands to the center line on the runway (some have hit the bullseye, unbelievable!)

Methinks you should be applauding the computer, but I'm not completely sure of that. Landings in heavy a/c these days are so often "greased on" that I've concluded that there's a great deal of automation involved. I guess next flight I'll pass a question on that to the flight deck.

I'd expect the flight deck's response will be if the landing is off-center, the computer definitely was in control but if its on target, the pilot was flawless as usual.
