hi, interesting article on the HK Standard yesterday;

*possibilities* of a CX hkg-yvr-jfk-lhr-hkg
i remember reading a post here on this topic some time ago but cant find it now- at least the rumour of CX trans atlantic sounds closer and closer to becoming reality (cross my fingers).
An LHR stopover would rock!

Might be a good idea but I doubt the U.K. authorities would allow CX to obtain and use 5th freedom for LHR-JFK. SQ has been trying to get/do this for years.
Only AI and Kuwait airways have (and use) 5th freedom between LHR and JFK.

If CX cannot secure fifth freedom rights to operate LHR-JFK v.v., could CX place its code on BA's or AA's transatlanctic flights from LHR-JFK? Otherwise could CX replace another city instead of LHR in the RTW service? DUB, ZRH, MAN, HEL,...?

My guess is if they really wanted to do RTW, they could of done it out of Manchester, but they pulled out of Manchester a little over a year ago. CX main focus destination in Europe is LHR.
I would love to see CX fly LHR-JFK as their product is much superior to AA on that route.

AFAIK CX already HAS the right to fly LHR-JFK and it is being used as a concession chip in the transatlantic negotations with the regulators.
