I'm flying CX888 HKG-YVR-JFK soon and the loads are F4 A2 J7 C0 D0 Y0.....

Much as I am hoping for an operational upgrade to J from my spendy http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif M fare ticket, I'm curious about how CX goes about bumping pax off the aircraft if it's really full.

What sort of compensation do they offer? How much negotiating power do I have as far as choosing the airline to which I am bumped if there isn't another CX flight for me? Would they move me up to J if they bumped me as often happens on airlines in the States?

Thanks!

If they really need to bump, I'm sure they won't choose an emerald passenger. Your more likely to get upgraded than to be bumped.

I just wondered ...

On this route, wouldn't CX more likely upgrade HKG-YVR pax than HKG-JFK flyers?

Of course, variables and parameters differ one flight to another, so anything can happen.

not sure CX888 op-ug policy...

I flew CX888 from HKG to JFK (via YVR) on JUL.Y and J were overbooked and CX upgraded me from J(I class) to F!!!.The gate agent handed me 2 boarding passes... HKG-YVR on F and YVR-JFK on J, since YVR-JFK was not oversold.

My guess is that you will be upgraded rather than bumped especially if you use your AA EXP card. They normally upgrade at the gate.

Since I cannot earn AAdvantage miles on this fare, my Qantas number will be on my BP. Should I flash my EXP card at them in the lounge or at the gate or ??? to improve my chances of riding home in J?

Does CX overbook aircraft to the point that they have to deny boarding to it?

Thanks!

If I were you, I would check in with the AA EXP number in the record and get the boading pass. I would then switch to the QF number before boarding either at the lounge or at the gate, maybe 30 minutes prior to the departure (by then CX has finished upgrading all the pax they need to upgrade).

Ok, thank you very much for the advice.

I will have a friend with me who is non-status and not on the same PNR. Can I ask CX to link our records so that hopefully he will get upgraded as well? We get into HKG from BKK about 3 hours before our flight.

I am sure they will link your PNRs but in my experience this will mean you are much less likely to get up into J. They might assume you would like to sit with your friend and if so would only upgrade you if they have 2 seats together free in J - unlikely. They are probably more likley to go for single Diamond and when there are no more of these, then OW EMD pax.

Hmmm... Maybe I better just leave our records unlinked and if I get op-uped then inquire if they need another person... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
