Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Are CX FA's still wearing masks?
I have to travel from BKK to LHR on May 21 and would prefer giving my business to CX even if it means transferring in HKG. I am confident that SARS is not a risk. Any significant disruption, however, in addition to the HKG transfer would probably convince me to overcome my objections to flying BA. Thus the question above as well as a more general question as to inconvenience experienced either in HKG or on arrival at LHR where I will be transferring on to GVA.

May 21st is a long time from now but I just went through HKG last weekend and found the airport to be a breeze. No lines anywhere and everyone very helpful. Most if not all of the FA's are wearing face masks but as time goes on, you will see less of this.

The one I had dinner with last night wasn't wearing one. But then she wasn't on a plane http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I was flying HKG-LAX yesterday in coach with a group of engineers from our company. Most of the FA has mask, but I've noticed that none of the pursers was wearing mask. BTW, of the four segments on CX metal last week, only once was I approached by the purser because of my Emerald status. This is odd compare to almost 100% last year. Also, I have noticed the catering has more of a western taste than Asian taste. Is it just me?

Wouldn't wearing a face mask make eating dinner a bit tricky? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I think I can speak for many here when I say that if given the opportunity to ask christep one question about his posting re: dinner with a CX F/A, that would not have been the question. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

It's a good question! I always end up at the 7 11 in Hong Kong. :-)

Is CX still handing out warm/cold towels on flights? In any class?
SQ in their Business Class is handing out disposable towelletes in tacky silver packaging. They say its for SARS protection, but really it's for cost cutting!

no more hot towels in biz/1st, on some flights they give out the wet towels in the plastic bags that they give out in Y
On the issue of hot towels, it actually is for SARS protection, although, IMHO, it is a tad overdone (because disinfecting towels kills everything). Here is the announcement from JALs website:

Hand towels (oshibori) served to passengers on Japan-Hong Kong and Japan-Guangzhou routes Japan-Beijing routes, Japan-Shanghai routes will not be recycled but disposed of after use
I love the purity. However, if they are disposing them, they certainly won't purchase more unless making "record profits". :-) Couldn't find a similar announcement on CXs wesbites. I can't wait for all this SARS crap to end.

I suppose I'd better come clean and clarify that both her fiance and my girlfriend were also at the table. For what it's worth, the restaurant was my excellent local Tapas place - Rico's on Robinson Road.

See, I told you my question was only about the restuarant, greg99.
