Did Cathay ever run a separate First/Business lounge facility at Heathrow? Right now they share with AA in T3, but as SIA and MAS both operate their own lounge I was thinking that CX must have at one point had their own facility and combined with AA after the advent of oneworld.

Yes , CX did operate their own seperate Business and First Class lounge at Heathrow T3 right up till 1999 I think.

After that, CX decided it was more cost effective to just use it with AA's Admirals Club lounge since all ground handling are handled by them. There is a CX Lounge representative sitting at the AA Lounge prior to CX flights though.

Does this mean that AA handles check-in for CX at LHR and, if so, can one use AA's park Avenue facility when traveling F or J or is an elite?

No CX has its own check-in agents at LHR. Elite level FF's or F passengers are entitled to use the F section of the Admirals Club or BA's F lounge (next door, if it's open).

Any arrival CX lounges at LHR?

Thanks.

When I flew CX251 HKG/LHR in December 2002, I received a printed invitation at check-in for the AA Arrivals lounge on the mezzanine floor after clearing T3 customs.

Flying which class and with which CX Status?

I also recall getting an invitation for LHR arrival facilities for a flight I took last year or two years ago. It specifically said it's AA's facilities. I was in business class. The check-in/boarding pass machine spewed out the invitation along with a lounge invitation.

So they discontinued?

I think so.
I took flights from HKG to LHR at MAR-02, AUG-02, MAR-03.
MAR-02 discount business(I)
AUG-02 discount business(I), upgraded to F due to overbooking
MAR-03 discount economy(S), upgraded to C with Asiamiles, upgraded to F due to overbooking.

No invitation to the arrival lounge at all.

Does CX still give you a pink slip for fast track immigration at LHR?

Isn't it great when that happens? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

First, CX Diamond (Oneworld Emerald).

And yes, pink folders for FastTrack arrivals are still handed out on board to non-EU nationals.

Used the AA lounge in LHR last year for a CX flight... A real dump compared to the CX one's in Asia...

You should consider the fact that AA runs ~6 daily flights out of LHR, and CX runs far more flights out of its major lounge-airports like TPE and HKG.

So, the fact is that AA's lounge is still a dump regardless of the number of flights CX has... Doesn't SQ have a similar flight number at LHR *RIGHT NOW* and a much better lounge.

The old BA lounge (no longer) in T3 was better than the AA lounge.

A route where CX has ONE flight a day, JNB had a MUCH nicer shared lounge with BA

As an Admirals Club member as well, I do think the LHR lounge is not great irrespective of CX sharing it.

NRT has five (temporarily reduced to four) CX departures and CX runs its own lounge.

Last time I was there, CX also had their own lounge (albeit a small one) at Nagoya. Definitely not a lot of their flights going in/out of that city.

I say dump, the independent Oneworld lounges at LHR (not enough room) and each terminal should get PROPER Oneworld shared lounges with C/J areas and F areas.

AS long as the lounges are kept tidy and provide a good level of service/snacks, etc nobody would notice too much of a difference.

BTW: LA has the same problems in TBIT with the oneworld lounges hosted by CX and QF

I agree. The CX first lounge at the AC in T3 at LHR is pathetic. The first class lounge has no internet access for instance, and it is quite small. Snacks are OK, but nothing to write home about

While this is true, it is a palace compared to the CX F lounge (closet) at SFO

Well B Watson, I do agree on the shared SFO lounge... Shame that OneWorld/JAL couldn't combine for a better lounge at SFO.

The thing that bugs me about SFO is that there is a BA lounge in CX's wing (no pun intended) of the international terminal. However, it is used by another carrier in the late evening.

The JAL Sakura lounge at SFO is dismal and the first class area is a joke. What I don't understand is why CX doesn't enhance the catering in the lounge as they arew the sole users in the late evening and staff it with their own personnel.

I have to agree with that too. The Sakura Lounge offers nothing special. The first class lounge is just a little area inside the business class lounge, much like the TPE lounge - except much smaller. Even CI (God forbid) has a nicer lounge at SFO!

I usually just hang out at a nice Millbrae restaurant and head to my gate directly. The visit to the lounge is a complete waste of time.

The Terrace Lounge is used by OZ for its evening departures to ICN.

jkc22; now I've learned something new... I didn't see a First class area to the Sakura lounge.. Where is it as you enter... So you walk into the lounge making a right to go to the counter, then turn right again to go into the main part of the lounge. Was this the C/J part of the lounge?

Well, there is no reason for OZ to continue using the BA lounge as OZ is now part of Star Alliance. Wondering if CX is negotiating to get access into the BA lounge.

The J lounge is the "larger" main area opposite to the snack/beverage bar, and the adjacent reading room. The F lounge (or more aptly the F "closet" as described by Mr. Watson) is to your left (when you are facing the windows), behind the reception desk. The entrance to the "closet" has a standing sign that reads "First Class Passengers Only".

AA has an arrivals lounge at LHR T3, which you presumably you can use if travelling J, F or have OW Sapphire status.
