Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Upgrades And Special Meals

Are my chances of getting an upgrade hindered by ordering a special Y meal? Any experience with this? I'm a OW Sapphire.

i was op uped on cx and not only did they load the plane with my special meal but they loaded the j version which had larger portions. they even loaded two main corses so that i would have a choice. i was ow ruby then but that sold me on cx forever!

Not all stations will do this... Avoid doing this out of LAX or SFO as they will tell you (I didn't do it but a freq flier CX friend did), he was denied an upgrade out of LAX because they loaded his Y meal. The agent was apologetic but stated not to request a special meal when trying to upgrade.

I'm sure out of HKG it's NOT a problem though.

YVR to JFK is almost always never full so chances of an op-upgrade is almost nil. If there were 2 passengers with the same status, one with a special meal and the other without, guess which passenger will get the upgrade if only one upgrade is available.

Do people still think it's best not to have a special meal if you want an upgrade? I'm done with the casseroles in J, last few flights I've refused them much to the shock of the FA. I'd like to change to something like a low calorie meal when I fly J but happy to have the regular meal when I get upgraded to F (which happesn quite often to Tokyo).

Perhaps I'm asking for too much?
