If I'm not mistaken, CX offered award sales for using AA miles in both the spring & fall of 2002.

Any guess when (or if) the Spring Sale will be announced, as I'm ready to book now!!

Thanks for your educated guesses!

Best for you to check with AA's forum or AAdvantage themselves.

We're here in Asiamiles.

In 2000 CX had a sale on FC AAdvantage awards...just 105,000 MIA-LAX (AA FC, 3-cabin), LAX-HKG, and then later HKG-SYD...and return. I long for a repeat offer.

That trip was particularly enjoyable, as I took advantage of a short SYD-MEL flight to grab the 100,000 6-continents bonus being offered by OW...sweet-that last continent added 50K, alone. Of course, had I been FlyerTalk savvy back then, I would have earned that OW bonus on multiple OW carriers, but alas, enlightenment/miles-addiction came later.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one crazy enough to consider an Australia trip going the long way around (via Hong Kong)!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll offer Australia/New Zealand again in a spring sale, as I noticed that the fall sale did NOT include anything past Asia.

You're definitely not the only one. But when I previously asked about this (see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum85/HTML/001111.html ), I got the following answer from Guy Betsy:

<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">
CX offers coach fares via HKG as an alternative to the direct flights offered by other carriers North America-Australia. The longer flight time might deter some from taking CX so CX throws in a savings even though it is not as there are longer flying times involved. But these fares sell quite well.
When it comes to Business Class and First Class fares however, it is a different ballgame. The direct published fares will work out cheaper than CX. CX does not have to 'deter' a business person to take its longer flight via HKG. The theory is that if you're already paying for J or F, you'd want to take the best possible route to your destination. That said however, CX does offer some rates for Australia but these are not published and are not on CX leverage. They can only be bought at certain ethnic asian travel agencies. Overall the cost savings isn't that much better (some are even more than the direct QF/UA fares) but if you insist, they do exist.
