I need help. This is will be the first time ever I fly on CX and to SGN. Don't know what will work better, using my AA miles for coach RT or pay and get the miles. Please help me out with options.

I'm planning on leaving anytime in June and return 4 weeks later.

I'm not savvy enough to try and book tickets on my own. And using travel agent costs more money I'm told.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Unless things have changed you cannot use AA miles to fly to Vietnam via CX, only JAL. It has something to do with the special agreement CX and Vietnam airlines have on the HKG-Vietnam routes.

Pay for a CX ticket to Vietnam. You'd get miles only up to HKG though as reasons for the HKG-Vietnam cannot accrue miles as per reason mentioned above.

Go to cx's website for fares. Or else engage in the services of an asian travel agent for solutions.

I have no experience on either CX or JAL. So which is better as far as seatings, service, meals, etc.?

Here is what I have, 85K AA miles in my account, 70K in spouse account, so I have enough for 2 coach on JAL. But since the flight time is very long, I want to upgrade to biz for both of us. I also have AA travel vouchers of $1200 that I can use.

I'm trying to utilize both AA miles and the voucher to the best way I can for 2 biz tickets for me and my son without spending any more money.

Any suggestions, ideas, help from you travel warriors is greatly appreciated.

Do not use your miles unless absolutely necessary. Fly AA to Vancouver and Fly Cx from YVR to HKG and onto SGN. Build more mileage. Try CX website or travelocity.ca ot ticketpilot.ca. Also its cheaper to purchase the SGN ticket separately sometimes. Good Luck

Fares from Canada are more expensive that from the USA.

It would be wiser for you to seek the services of an asian travel agency who specialises in fares to Vietnam.

Fares with travel agents are not 'more' as you put it, but the services they provide are invaluable. Better to have all your documents in order rather than without.

Take it from me, I'm an agent, so I know what I'm talking about. Good luck.
