Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - CX 1st vs. JAL 1st

Am planning a trip this summer from LAX to Singapore using AAdvantage miles. Have flown CX in first before and loved it but am having problems with availability of awards for my desired dates. I was thinking of checking out JAL in 1st. Can anyone who has flown CX and JAL in 1st help me with a comparison. My current plan is to fly CX in business which is available -- so should I stick with that or try to JAL 1st?

JL is just as good. But their seats can be a bit dodgy depending on the age of the aircraft. Food is top notch though.

Please bear in mind that not all routes have First Class. Especially between SIN and NRT.

JL out of LAX has inferior F service ... very different from their JFK service (which is excellent). I think you will be a bit disappointed unless JL upgrades their service on this route (they haven't announced plans to do so). This inconsistency in service level makes JL not very desirable in my book.

However bad it may be is still miles better than American or United. Any airline that serves Mariages Friers Teas deserves serious consideration! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Fly CX without question it is much better...book what you can now and then a month before check availability daily...it opens up sometimes right before departure and worth the $$$ expedite fee.

I have made some comments about comparison in Other Asian airlines forum. I found JAL out of SFO to have been a superb experience and would highly recommend. I still love CX but think you should give JAL a whirl.
