View Full Version : No Chinese food?

I just flew CDG-HKG in business and the menu featured no dim sum or any other Chinese foods! (They did have 'instant' noodles for midflight snack.) The inflight service manager told me the French don't know how to prepare dim sum, which I thought was a rather silly comment.

Is this very common? I mean, CX without Chinese foods. One thing I like about flying CX is this 'alternative' offer.

The new CX lounge at CDG was nice and so was AA's Admiral Club, which is also new?

Just back from HKG-LHR on CX 255 (plane pretty empty) only 2 of us in first, with an extensive range of good food (Chinese and otherwise). The gifts seem to have gone however, eg.letter openers, cds) or am I so out of date??

But if you must have gifts, fly during Chinese new year and CX will ply you with gifts. As for the chinese food, I can't remember any CX flight without a chinese dish (invariably very tempting), and the mid-flight "snack" chinese soups are fabulous. But more credit to CX for dropping the items if the caterer at CDG could not execute to their standards, they get bonus points in my book for doing that. I once had French food (lamb chops) out of TPE that were awful -- maybe the French heard about this and took their revenge.

I've taken the Paris flight to HKG before. Though there might not be dim-sum, there is still an asianisque choice. And then there's the noodle soup selection as well. The roast pork selection of the main menu (way back in the summer) tastes awfully like Chinese roast pork though with a hint of Francaise in it... so I don't think CX would like to call it entirely Chinese Char Siew just in case the standard is not up to par!

Happy New Year!

Here I set in my new CX FC light green knit lounge suit recovering from the BKK-HKG-LAX flight last nite ringing in 2003, and celebrating at the International Date Line. It is MORE comfortable then any PJ's! Warm and fuzzy and a nice compliment to the duvet covers in the cold front cabin. The only way to fly!

</font>I guess you don't fly them frequently enough. CX goes through experiments, and the PJs went through various combinations of collar, pocket, colour and fabric. Some are failed designs. The process seems to work as the best of the "prototypes" wound up as the final (mass deployed) one that is currently in use. As for the toiletries kit, I ignore those (BA has a much nicer kit, so does SQ).

This really was the first time that I saw no Chinese food in the menu. HKG-CDG had a nice noodle soupe and dim sum for breakfast. My previous CDG-HKG was when they were going through that catering strike at CDG. Even then, CX had carried Chinese foods (from HKG!).
