Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - qualification period -- interesting...

I noticed something interesting about my membership status. My previous membership was valid through 31st of Dec 02. However, I just logged on, and they have ALREADY reset my status mile to 0, and started another membership year through 31st Dec 03.

To my understanding, membership year ending on 31st of Dec means I should have until end of this month to accure status miles. Technically, shouldn't they reset my miles on 1st of January, and determine my requalification? Maybe my interpretation of membership policy was wrong, or is it?

The only reason I can think of is that I have did not have any travel booked with CX this month at the time when they renewed my membership. Would that be why they hurried and reset my counter to 0?

BUT, what IF, say I was just short of qualifying for gold, and I suddenly booked a mileage run for this month? Then does this mile count towards my existing membership? Or towards my NEXT YEAR's renewed membership?

Does anybody have bright ideas to requalification policy?

My understanding is that they give you some leeway. My qualification date for Diamond is 2 January. Which gives me status until the 31 Jan the following year. If I have reached the requalification required by 2 Jan then my points/miles are reset on that day. If not then I have until the end of January.

Note that the date that counts is the date the miles are posted to your account, not the date of travel. This can be useful in certain circumstances. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I don't suppose there is any way to get the membership year shortened? I've requalified, but my year doesn't end till end-Feb 03, so all my flights till then are "wasted" in terms of requalifying in future. I don't suppose there is any way of cajoling/begging CX to put aside SOME miles for the upcoming year???

Er, thanks whitters. I was trying to be subtle about it given that CX reads these board! :

Sure, that will work in terms of qualification....

but you will miss out on lounge access and OP upgrade opportunity... I feel this is more detrimental.

but if you already fly on J/F, this is good tactic.

Just to bring this thread back to life (and avoid doing my work). I've got the following situation-- already requalified for Diamond, and my year started Feb. 5, and ends next Feb. 28. Problem is, I'm flying in Feb., and I'd really like those miles to count towards the next membership year. I don't suppose that there is any way to persuade CX to shorten my membership year to just that, one year, ending Feb. 5th? Then I could put the miles towards next year. I have to use my MPC number, as I've got upgrade aspirations for this flight. Am I screaming into the wilderness if I write MPC desk with this query?

I have emailed Commuter on this topic. I suggest we don't discuss this explicitly here (thanks to Whitters for deleting the earlier post).

I'm happy to discuss by email (see profile).
