Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - 346 J Config
We are booked on CX 880 on Jan. 1 HKG-LAX, and the seat map on the CX web site shows what I am guessing is a 346. When I booked it, the seat map was definitely a 343. It shows 60 J seats in of course a 2/2/2 configuration. Normally in J on a CX 340 I like to sit in the first of the two compartments. Does anyone know which row numbers are in the first compartment and where the cut off is for compartment two. I don't want to end up over the wing...

I think its too early for CX to finalize the seat map for the A340-600 yet. Yes the seat map still shows the A340-300. So you'd have to wait till the flight is confirmed to be operating first.
But as the aircraft is rather 'long' I doubt you'd be hanging over the wing anytime soon if you're sitting in Business Class.

Guy Betsy,
So how many 343s does CX have with 60 seats in J?
As far as I am aware they all have between 30 and 40 depending on configuration. What's more, according to the CX website, even in the 34C the last three rows of business are already over the wing.
Or are you suggesting that ak333 can't count?
i think on cathaypacific.com, the wing location is indicated by the "triangles" and the light shading over the row numbers...so it seems like on this 346 config...rows 19-21 in J are over the wing...
but it didn't show the compartments...then i used united.com to check these same CX flights, from their seat maps it seems like rows 11-18 are in one compartment, and rows 19-21 are in the second...
so i guess if you want the first compartment, and not anything over the wing, rows 11-18 should be fine...
Tedhl, I see the triangles you mention. So it does look like rows 19-21 are over the wing and in compartment two. The 346 is much longer than the 343. There is a good picture of a VS one as an example:

Notice the saying on the aft end of the plane.
I have a feeling that CX might change a/c types between now and flight time, so I guess I will stick to rows 11/12 in the meantime just in case.

interesting...it seems while they now have a much expanded J cabin, 60 seats, 10 rows of 2/2/2 on this new 346...they still only have 8 F seats in this new config, 2 rows of 1/2/1...I thought demand say on HKG-LAX should be pretty good in F ? or no longer the case now ?

I heard that there are going to be 12 seats in the F Class Cabin (3 Rows).

I hope this will be true.
Anyways, I checked the Jan 1st flight LAX-HKG, and seat map only shows 8 seats.
Maybe CX wants to make their F product even more "exclusive" by further reducing the number of seats? (and increase the F fare?)

Currently the 346 is scheduled to debut on the HKG-LAX route on 02JAN03 on CX880 on tuesdays, thursdays and fridays, with returns on the same day as CX881.
Rows 1-2 are F, 11-21 J, and 30-67 Y.
Even though the flight is already on sale, the website is not updated with a seatmap. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
