Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - MPC Award Charts/Benefit Lists? Is F better than...?

Hello,

I am a UA Premier, and I considered earning all my miles this year on OneWorld through AA, but didn't. Why? Because there is little to no information abour Marco Polo Club available online without paying their $50 USD fee to join first.

Yet, my favorite leisure destination is HKG. Does anyone have a web link (or can provide a short list) of the benefits given to the first status level by MPC?

Also, does anyone know the mileage required for upgrade awards from discounted Economy to Business on HKG-SFO or HKG-LAX flights?

It seems like CX really just wants US pax to use AAdvantage instead! Personally, I find this to be cumbersome as in the past I've had problems redeeming awards on a "partner airline" because the inventory of award seats/upgrades is fixed, even though the "partner airline" flight is selling miserably.

BTW, flew in F from HKG-TPE and loved it. Still, I actually found it kind of excessive considering how decent their Business product is (and probably since it's such a short flight). I just wanted to try it out first. No complaining at all here! But how do you think the 2 products compare on long haul flights?

Thanks to anyone and everyone who can help out with this!!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

The benefit list appears to be on the open website here:

http://www.cathaypacific.com/intl/ff/theclub/1,,32627,00.html

For award charts you need to go to the AsiaMiles website since that's where MPC miles go. Awards are the same for all AsiaMiles people. http://www.asiamiles.com and follow the obvious links.

You can only upgrade for miles on CX using AsiaMiles off the following economy fares: YBHKLMS
From those to business is 35,000 one way or 60,000 roundtrip for LAX or SFO to HKG

..but honestly. if you will fly 50k miles/points, we all think AA is a better program than MPO. and espcially if you want to redeem CX awards.

with the double miles (actually 3x, if u convert the e-upgrade into miles).
you can redeem F class award for the amount of flying which earns you Y class award in MPO

Hi John26. So you'd just want to join MPC and hope to get Top Tier Status already?

I hope you know its the hardest of all OneWorld partner programmes to get from zero status to top tier Diamond.

At zero level, you first need 30K to reach SILVER. Then your status points zero's down (but you get to keep your award miles) and you need another 60K to get GOLD. Then it zeros down again, and then you need to get an additional 120K to reach DIAMOND. From hereonin, you need to maintain 120K a year to retain DIAMOND. Plus you receive no bonus points/miles for flying ONeworld or CX flights.

The benefits include however to redeem upgrade awards on most coach fares on CX, BA and LX. The upgrade awards though are sometimes ridiculous high. The other benefit for MPC is that you may be waitlisted on award flights whereas you can't on other airline programmes.

But seeing that your UA Premier anyway, don't even think of asking CX to comp you!

Hi Everyone,

Wow - thanks for your replies! I'm new, but find the information everyone so willingly provides to be quite helpful.

I'll stick with UA for now (at least as long as they are around). Personally, I see no benefit in MPC for my situation whatsoever.

UA allows mileage accrual on almost all published discounted fares, while most CX online specials don't even count for mileage. Also, I have never seen Cathay price a discount Y-Class U.S.-departing transpacific flight lower than UA. Other than the fact that it's a really cool airline with decent service and a good product, I see no incentive to switch to Cathay or Oneworld (even though I love flying Cathay, JAL, BA and Iberia).

I feel like all the "cool airlines" (except maybe AAmerican) are in the Oneworld alliance, but alas it looks like it's UA for me.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

Thanks everyone! You made me feel like I was able to make the right decision!

While UA permits accrual on most UA fares, one extra advantage to AAdvantage when you hit Platinum level (equiv to Premier) is that you get 100% bonus on any / all OneWorld flights. Something similar on UA Premiers and above get but restricted only to UA flights.

Plus CX fares booked in H, B and Y class originating from USA (which are all in the above classes anyway) get mileage on AAdvantage.

For existing MPC members, it's easier to gain higher status than current no-status members. The benefits are that when a flight is oversold, we get the upgrades first (but that is not a given or can be confirmed).

You'd have to really fly First or Business on CX longhaul to understand why we CX-FTers regard this airline as the best in the industry.
