Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Asiana to leave AsiaMiles?

I read with dismay that Asiana are joining the Star Alliance sometime in the next six to twelve months. How can oneworld let this happen when CX, AA and QF all have existing relationships - but that's another question for another forum.

My question for this forum is would anyone care to speculate if and when OZ would leave AsiaMiles? The reason I ask is that I have a multi-destination return trip booked for this coming Dec/Jan with OZ.

My motivation for flying OZ was to earn AsiaMiles points, and depending on if and when they would leave the AsiaMiles program, I may need to consider joining a Star Alliance program.

Any advise or pure speculation appreciated.

They are suppose to join Star in 2003, so probably in Jan or Feb. They usually announce when a partner relationship is over on the website and then give you a grace period. So for your trip in Dec/Jan, it should be fine.
