I rang MPC last night and successfully booked an award for December flying BNE-HKG-LHR-HKG-SYD. The difference between MPC and AsiaMiles is phenomenal - MPC was actually courteous and helpful, and spent an hour finding flights on the dates I wanted. They weren't even miffed when I asked to be booked on BA flights in preference to CX between HKG and LHR!

My only problem with the itinerary is that the BNE-HKG flight is on an A330. Am I correct in thinking that this means old-style business class? Eeep!

I would fly out of SYD (on an A333), but BNE works better with dates. What are your thoughts? Having never flown old CX J, I don't know what the cabin is like. Should I bother trying to change my departure point to SYD so as to get the new business class? Will CX have refitted the aircraft by December (I live in hope)?

It depends. Since you already have sectors with new J, maybe it's a good idea to start off with old J seats, than you would be able to compare for your interest. If you are tight on time, just go with BNE-HKG.

Besides, I'm presuming you are connecting to London on the same date of arrival. If you leave from BNE, you arrive HKG much earlier than if you were to fly from SYD. Than, you have more time to relax in the lounge in HKG.

Enjoy your flight.

Just because the new J class is out doesn't make the old J class bad. It's still a product superior most other airlines out there!!!

I flew BNE-HKG last summer and had an old style J seat. It was quite comfortable and I would fly it again anytime. If the flight from BNE is better for you, stick with it.
