Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - The future of YVR-JFK

I'm flying YVR-JFK today, and one of the CX staff told me (since the plane is half empty) that the longer-term plan may be to eliminate this flight and have one flight per day HKG-YVR and one direct HKG-JFK. I hope it doesn't come true, as I like using this flight (the option being Air Canada?!). Anybody have any idea on CX's current thinking regarding whether they are going to keep this going in the medium-term?

You mean nonstop HKG-JFK?
Also, if CX eliminates JFK-YVR, AA might being flying this route again since they used to have it until only last year.

I can't wait for the nonstop JFK - HKG!
The only choice I have is CO and the service is s***.

CX has announced the direct flight to JFK last year and cancelled plans after 9/11. I am sure as traffic picks up, the non-stop north pole connection will finally be inaugurated. Rumours speak of an announcement due in May.
Last year's annoucement of the north pole route did not mention that CX would reduce their HKG-YVR-JFK frequency. I don't expect that to happen, since YVR-JFK seems to be a profitable segment, with full 5th freedom and all.

That'll probably to coincide with the delivery of the new Airbus A340-600 planes in September which have the range to fly HKG-JFK nonstop. CX bought these aircrafts specifically for this route anyway, as they didn't think it justifies putting a 747 on it.

My posting may be more suitable for the Oneworld forum, but here is what I have to say about my worst fear:
I would be really pissed if CX cancelled its YVR-JFK-YVR segments less than 7 days before I start my Oneworld RTW in December if for some reason they want to suddenly start their "non-stop" HKG-JFK-HKG service.
Will be flying
YVR-JFK CX (transit)
JFK-DFW-SFO-ORD-DFW-JFK AA
and JFK-HKG CX
for my North American segments.
If CX decided to "cancel" the YVR-JFK-YVR segments less than 7 days before my departure, which is not likely, (I would be able reissue my ticket without any penalty if I re-tickted at least 7 days before departure for my Oneworld Explorer) to start their "non-stop" HKG-JFK-HKG service, is there anyway I can convince them to reissue my ticket for free, with the alternative routing below (instead of flying say "HP, or CO" which CX might re-route me on in lieu of CX 888)?
Alternative routing:
YVR-DFW AA (transit)
DFW-SFO AA (stop over)
SFO-LAX AA (transit)
LAX-JFK AA (flying in the forward most cabin on a 3 class aircraft is very important to me)
JFK-HKG CX
Now, any suggestion on what to do with my "two extra" North American segments on AA if CX 888 YVR-JFK becomes pulled?
I never fly AC!! Even if I need to go to YYZ, I would fly YVR-JFK on CX and then find other means to get to YYZ.

I would expect the decision would be more based on the HKG-YVR-HKG segment, and the yields on it. I have been told that the Vancouver route is always full. If thats the case, there is no reason to risk running a non-stop JFK flight half full. I was also told by an FA that the pilots resisted the non-stop because of the time involved. Something about it going over the max that they wanted to fly at one time. It sounds like horse pucky to me, but then again, I am a victim of the CX pilots nonsense in the past. At this point, I am not sure I would put anything past them.
also, just 1 daily 744 is not enough for
HKG-YVR
quite a few pax in YVR board the CX889 for
HKG
