I will be flying from the Bay Area to Singapore in July for a meeting. Presently the best rate is on CX but I am Plt on AA so there is a better chance for exit row. What is the general opinion, spend the exit $400 for AA seats or go for the CX experience?

Thanks for your input.

As a PLT, flying CX might give you a chance for an operational upgrade. I got one on April 6 from HKG-YVR.

Flying CX would offer you the opportunity to visit the nice CX lounges in HKG.

In terms of departure and arrivals, I prefer CX. CX leaves SFO very early in the morning at about 1:00am, thus allowing me to be productive for the whole day and relax in the evening before my flight. AA leaves SJC during the middle of the day. I feel the whole day is wasted.

CX arrives into SIN around 11:30am allowing me be productive for the rest of the day and evening. AA (JL) arrives very late at night at around 11:00pm. IMO, a waste of one night's hotel tariff.

CX leaves SIN around 11:00am which is fine. AA (JL) leaves early at around 8:00am. I'd rather get a couple extra hours of sleep.

AA does have one advantage: you arrive back into SJC in the morning giving you a full day to work. CX arrives into SFO in the mid-afternoon.

CX seats on 747 are not as comfortable as AA 777. Though the seats on CX 747 offer better padding and cushioning, AA 777 offer wider seats. They feel one inch wider. Also, legroom on CX is just ok. Being 5'10", it was just fine for me, a bit snug.

CX service in economy is good. The food and drinks are quite good. There are plenty of snacks, noodles and sandwiches available between meal services.

-I find it easier to take a long flight and a short flight. You get this on CX. If you go through NRT, you get two long flights.

-I am almost always delayed departing NRT; I have never been delayed at HKG.

-I love HKG and CX, so there's no question for me.

CX in Y sucks, really really sucks.
Have been on CX twice within the last year to HKG, and Y has been a horrible experience, relative to MRTC on AA. Seats are small and legroom is nothing compared with AA. Plus, its hot as hell for some reason inside CX cabin
