Great trip report.
I especially appreciate your comments about the (not stale on CX) bread and croissants. There is an explanation for that: Cathay cares. Take a tour of their galley and you will see quite a difference from other airlines. Hint: lots of high-tech equipment, for special purposes, to make the flight work. I don't have much knowledge of galleys, but appreciate good design and technology, and I came away impressed (also depressed, because other airlines don't do that, so I'll never have those great croissants and garlic bread on other airlines). And their chocolates are great, too.

mhtaipei, thank you for a very detailed and timely report. I am seriously considering using CX's spring award sale (only 40k AAmiles) for HKG in economy. Would you happen to know what I can expect from the economy section? Would the food and high-tech offerings be the same? (I know it won't be a comfortable seat.)

I have had lots of flights in Y on CX. The food is good and plentiful, the entertainment on StudioCX is much like in biz except for 2 or 3 channels, I think it was Original Cut and the classic movie selection is missing from Y. In the new planes, Empower ports are installed in Y seats I hear - can't confirm that though as I have never been in the new economy.

I just had SFO-HKG on 29APR. It was an old plane -- again! It didn't have even StudioCX. A very limited selection. But it was all right, nothing to complain.

I was in J. I had a little chat with a F pax at the Wing entrance. It was closed until 6:05 a.m. He was very disappointed about the old fixture craft. He apparently had the 34C for HKG-SFO.

(I was pleasantly surprised that they had Empower activated on a 777 for a continuing HKG-SIN.)

The only stale bread in First (or any class) class was on TWA out of MUNICH about 1989, which I couldn't believe. Stale bread in Germany, NEVER! But there it was! The FA explained, that there was a problem with catering! ?
