Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Are CX fares out of line?

Hi folks, first post to this group. I was looking into SFO/LAX to HKG for May2-24 on the CX site and various travel webs. The current CX fare is over $2000 while United and Sing Air both were at about $980 for an almost identical flight routing. Also, a quick excursion (4 days)from HK to SIN or DSP was $1100. It seems odd thet the home of the all-asia pass has such fares. Am I looking in the wrong sites?

No, they are not out of line. CX US site is offering HK (and BKK) from US$699 from April thru May 31st. Link below:

Could be the booking class you want and all subsequent lower classes are sold out so the website is quoting you the higher fare.

at least in the US, if you are flying out from CX gateway CX offer pretty good price (often better than say AA or UA).. the only time I find that CX will be $200 or more expensive than AA is when I need a domestic connection, which kind of make sense.

Going YVR and YYZ seems more expensive, maybe that is b'cos more emigrated HK people living there.

Fares on CX and on many other major airlines ex-HKG are very, very high, especially mileage qualifying fares.

I just checked with Jade in NYC and they have USD810 for weekday departures (add USD25 for weekend), inclusive of 'taxes', from NYC to SIN. Booking class K, six-month valid, outbound date must be fixed but return date changeable.

Thanks for the replies. It seems those outrageous fares for SFOß>HKG were a temporary anomaly. The prices are now UA $796, CX $932 and SIN $966. LAXß>HKG does now show no Y availability, forcing 1 segment to BIZ at $3710. You are correct about the visit Asia fares; I was using the CX site as a starting point and got the really high quotes. A factor may be that the HKG-DPS flights in early May were the DOM's a while ago, so these flights may be packed! Also, the DOM books now but doesn't fly till September. Great for long term vacations but poor for business meetings.
