Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - New SFO/LAX flights?View Full Version : New SFO/LAX flights? Taipei Apr 4, 02, 1:30 pm I saw a new report on nex CX flights from HKG to LAX & SFO, and info on times, will the 11pm departures from HKG return?? sarecca Apr 5, 02, 12:23 pm YES!! I just checked and on July 1 there are two LAX-HKG flights. ChuckDEE Apr 8, 02, 9:40 am I don't understand... what was wrong with the afternoon flights (CX883)? I much preferred those to the midnight flights, as no matter how much you sleep, your still exhausted when you arrive in HKG at 0600, and you still have a whole day to try and stay awake. At least with the afternoon flights, you get into HKG at night and you go straight to bed and have a productive next day. I guess this midnight flight does give better consideration to onward connecting flights, but what about passengers terminating travel in HKG? ------------------ preez mine da pratform gahp. The day flight out of YVR still has full meal service, but it's a few hours shorter than LAX & SFO. That's one less movie, and a few hours less time to work up an appetite for wonton soup! HK-UMICH Apr 9, 02, 5:36 pm Oh... so you means the meal service out of LAX and SFO will be not as good as JFK, YVR or YYZ? If this will affect my experiences in CX I will need to change my departure date until other gateway is available then. The day flight has better catering. YYZ, SFO, and LAX are all night flights now. I don't know about the JFK flight, but I think it leaves fairly late too, becoming the late late YVR flight after its stop there. number_6 Apr 10, 02, 12:36 am <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by HK-UMICH: Oh... so you means the meal service out of LAX and SFO will be not as good as JFK, YVR or YYZ? YVR has caviar, LAX/SFO does not (of course this can change at any time, probably none will have caviar soon). BTW on my last CX flight they were very generous with the caviar, I was served at least 2 ounces. While I enjoy the meal service on CX, I would never pick flights based on that. Carfield Apr 10, 02, 12:58 pm According to my pre-911 menus, caviar is served on the supper flight. The supper service will be served shortly after takeoff with your choice of beverage. And then the F/As will take your a la carte order. SFO flight will switch from Airbus A340-300 to Boeing 747-400 beginning July 1, 2002. Good news for first traveler, but bad news for folks who want to try out the new Business class. LAX flight will get additional thrice weekly daytime flight beginning June, 2002, and the late evening flight will continue to be daily. YVR flight will have twice daily beginning this summer (up from 12 flights a week now). Carfield Guy Betsy Apr 10, 02, 1:26 pm CAVIAR is served in First Class on all long haul flights as the first course. Whether it is supper, lunch or dinner. The only time when it is not served is breakfast! A recent magazine article states that CX will complete refitting StudioCX and its new Business Class seat by early 2004! CX will however be getting the new A340-600s in Sept (2 I think) while they park 2 747-400s due for heavy maintenence then. CX883 leaves at 2345 and CX881 leaves at 0030, 45 mins later. My last night flights on CX F, one from LAX, one from HKG, and the other from LHR did not have caviar, only salmon. The rest of the menu was abreviated too. These flights were in late 2001, culminating on 9/12 and 9/14. Since then I've been on day flights or in J. I'm happy to hear that it's back if it's for real! Carfield Apr 11, 02, 1:23 pm I am sad to hear that CX is adding an additional night flight to the already very crowded situation at LAX on that particular period. Folks, please allocate more time for check in because lines will be extremely long and the present situation is already terrible, and I can't imagine how CX manages to add one more flight -- no more check in spaces and the lounges are bad enough in the first place and LAX is already a mess during the late night period. Bad move, Cathay Pacific! Why does CX not add an additional day flight? Maybe departing on an earlier daytime, instead of 2:30pm that it has previously operated. It is a good thing. Also it is good for North American connecting passenger. Carfield Carfield [This message has been edited by Carfield (edited 04-11-2002).] |
