Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Experiences with connecting baggage being tagged "Priority" by CX at JFK.

Has anyone here connect through JFK to CX (ie. AA -->JFK --->CX F/J) with connecting baggage? Did the CX (handled by BA) baggage handlers place the "PRIORITY" tags on your bags? (or since it is handled by BA, they always forget?)

I know that CX is very good at this (tagging connecting baggage with "PRIORITY" tags) at places like YVR, NRT, HKG etc., but what about at JFK?

Shouldn't matter who the ground handling agents are. CX will tag appropriately your baggage according to the flight manifest.

The tags dont mean anything if you are connecting flights. Your stuff just gets thrown in with the rest of the regular luggage. I asked the Cathy handling agent about it and they told me that for connecting flights they are unable to seperate the luggage because they are often in a rush to make the connection.

I've had the same experience. I've even seen the First Class check in person get on a walkie talkie and tell them to tag my bags. AND IT STILL HASN'T HAPPENED.

If I know I'm going to be in a hurry, I collect my bags from the connecting airline and then check-in with them at the CX counters.

I've heard of people getting "checked bags tagging service" in Vancouver.

But honestly, guyz.... is it absolutely that necessary to go to so much trouble, and out of your way, and ask questions that really cannot be guaranteed (if we say yes, you'll get Priority Tagged, and if you don't get it , will you hold it against us?).

We've all travelled internationally before. We all know at least what to expect. So usually, it's a matter of using COMMON SENSE, and at least be courteous when asking baggage to be inter-lined. Don't demand and be mean about it - your bag can have a Priority Tag on it but what use if you're going to HKG and your bag ends up 'accidentally' in JNB!

This topic is interesting because Qantas has been good at tagging my bags First Class or Priority when connecting in LAX from a US carrier that did not put on those exact tags at check-in.

So I'm surprised that's a problem for CX, given their higher standard of service.

In my experience, if you interline from AA to CX for example, when CX first receives your baggage from AA they will put the CX priority tags on your bag.

Has happened to me when interlining on UA<->ANA and v.v. in F class. (where there is no standardized FC Priority Tag, only the general orange tag)
