Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - CX seat pitch 340 / 744View Full Version : CX seat pitch 340 / 744 idainc Mar 27, 02, 5:20 pm Considering a switch from UA to CX. TIA/ megamiles Mar 27, 02, 8:05 pm CX coach is pretty tight especially in comparison to UA E+. The Airbus is slightly tighter than the 747 in economy. CX does do operational upgrades - they roll the cabins when oversold and Platinum have a medium chance of getting one. However you need to pick popular flights (esp. near holidays when Y is full, but J is not) when the oversell can approach 100 (per a check-in agent). New York seems to have a lot of op upgrades - I got upgraded recently both ways on a $500 H-fare. However your chances of a non-op upgrade is practically nil on CX. They protect their premium cabins diligently (which is the right thing to do, IMHO, but that's another argument) Edited to add this comment: For both my upgrades I showed up at the airport about 70 minutes before departure (no checked luggage) and had no pre-assigned seat assignment. Obviously, your mileage might vary, and this strategy has it's risks. When operational upgrades happen, I think it really doesn't matter when you check in so long as your status is in the system. You sometimes get 'new' boarding passes at the gate. A strange experience I had last week was when I did the online check-in for another flight, I was assigned a business class seat when I had a coach seat. The last page of the online check in also showed a business class boading pass. |
