Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Any ideas on how to upgrade from YVR to JFK to YVR?

I have a $500 US voucher which expires in
August. The only thing I could find to use
on was this route in coach. Any ideas on how
I can get an upgrade? What fare basis? I am
EXP on AA w/ points to use. Thanks

There are no AAdvantage awards for upgrade on CX within or between US and Canada. So that option is out. The only other option is to get a CX50B award for travel between New York and Vancouver in Business Class on Cathay. You still cannot use your $500 voucher though.

Another option is to forget about Cathay altogether, buy a roundtrip between JFK & YVR on AA in coach and use your $500 and your AA EXP status and /or miles to upgrade.

But I think the voucher is by CX, will AA accept it for UG?

else.

Use your USD 500 voucher towards the purchase of an A2R fare between YVR and JFK.

About CAD 5238+taxes RT. (About USD 3500+taxes)

CX may allow using the voucher for non-flight purchases, for example at http://www.cathaypacific.com/intl/pretrip/cxcitement/
It is a long shot, but I have used an MCO to buy duty free once (but it was for a small amount and the airline may have just eaten the cost as public relations rather than tell me it can't be done).

Your voucher expires in August. As long as you issue your ticket prior to expiry date for future travel, you're fine. You could for example issue a full fare fully refundable ticket and 'use' that as your next MCO so that you can issue in exchange for another ticket next time.

Can you also be a bit more specific on the voucher? Is it a gift certificate? A MCO? What is the MCO for?

From complaint. I was on 7 flights last July
when certain actions were being taken.
Issued by CS in LA. Says MCO all over it
along with non-refundable and non-transfer..
Thanks
