Dear all,

I am in the middle of planning a RTW of which a segment has me passing through HKG. Having enjoyed The Wing once before (Elemis is Excellent) I want to make sure I maximise my time at the airport. To this end, I have a few questions. Here's the basics of my connection. I'll be arriving from NRT continuing on to BKK both on CX. I've not yet fixed the dates and times but it will be somewhere in early to mid-January.

1. Last time I was flying F (I think it was actually A). I'll be flying J (D) this time. I am OW Emerald (BA Gold). Do I have full access to CX's lounges?

2. I've read a bit about the new Pier lounge. Sounds really nice. It would have been wonderful during my last trip because I didn't know about the 30+ minute walk to the other end of the world from The Wing to catch my flight to AKL. They actually held the plane for me as I was 5 minutes late getting there. The question. Is there anyway to find out in advance which gates flights normally arrive / depart from? I'd like to use this info to decide whether or not to book any services for the above mentioned Spa.

3. Given that I'm in J. What are the odds that there will be equipment with the new J configuration on my route?

Thanks,

Jenn

I can answer your first question. As a BA Gold you have access to both Wing lounges and the Pier.

If you're flying to BKK, you could almost be assured that your flight will be leaving from the remote gates in the Y so the Pier would be the best bet. No idea where the NRT flights would arrive.

1. u have access to all OW F lounges
2. try to ask the lounge staff in NRT about gate of arrival/departure in HKG. and make a reservation anyway (tell them your flight numbers). the gates could change at the last minute, so i guess they would let you cancel it if it couldnt work out

Try taking the train, it sure speeds the way to the remote wastes of the Y.

CX often provides the arrival gate of the flight you are flying and major connections from HKG either via announcement or on the screen just before arrival.

The Airbus equipment with the new J seat was flying on HKG-NRT-HKG a few weeks ago. (I think this was switched with a 747 but not the morning flight out of HKG, which is usually 747.) Out of NRT, the two evening flights (one via TPE and the other, last flight, straight to HKG) are operated by 747.

This is about the Pier Lounge
Also from CX World Magazine
"The new lounge is probably the longest airport lounge in the world - long enough to park 2 Boeing 747s and one Boeing 737 nose to tail and still have 12 feet left over--"

Thanks for all the info guys. Sounds like I'll be spending a little time in (or is it on?) The Pier. I'll let you know my impressions.

whatever you do
do not bother with the CX Toronto F (forlorn) class lounge (operated by BA) aka the Pits (just biscuits and chips and booze and no internet)
Frankfurt F lounge ( just pretzels and cookies and booze and no internet connection working)

what a joke

Unless absolutely necessary, I have decided my own MCT at HKG would be three hours; one hour to spend at Elmis Spa and another hour or so in the Cabana and the rest reading and dining at Heaven. The opening of the Pier lounge is such a welcome addition to those who must depart from the end of the Y shaped terminal constellationl; particularly for flights to TPE and BKK.... I much rather luxuriate myself in the bliss of the HK CX lounges and take later flights to TPE or NRT rather than getting stuck in traffic going downtown in TPE and Tokyo amid the mad evening rush hour.
