I just flew A340 from HKG-DPS-HKG, on the way out on the new business class seat and on return upgraded to First class. The biz class seat is almost identical to the First class except for a leg room reduction of about 12 inches. The lumbar support has more options in the business class seat and the tray table is larger in the First class. I just wonder are they palnning to phase out First class? I wouldnt spend the extra money for the seat aspect of First class

hello drbala,
Yes, the great difference that used to exist between J and F class on CX seems to be diminishing. Its a wonderful news as CX's old J class seats were getting rather inferior in terms of their seat comforts as other carriers kept improving their J seats.
For F, I just hope they keep uncorking those wonderful Krug and Lynch Bages as well as GC La Justice. and those fresh congees and scrambled eggs and imcomparable personal service remain as a big draw for me.

IMHO, there is still a big difference between CX new F and CX new J. The new J is not horizontal. I feel as if I'm almost standing up in the "flat" position and use the seat belt as a harness around my butt to keep from sliding down.
CX F, on the other hand, is really horizontal. This difference, the video tapes in F, and the superior food service in F still make a difference.

This is the same problem I had on BA with New club, after carefull consideration I concluded that first is still a superior product. The staff numbers per pax are higher, food standards are higher and the slight differences in seats make up a lot.
