Well, I have decided to cross post this seeing as it has not drummed up a whole lot of discussion in the SQ Forum.

Next spring, I will have the pleasure of traveling between NRT and TPE and be fortunate enough to sample either CX or SQ's F product. I am wondering, for those in the know, which is the better option. The types of things that I am interested in are: What type of service should I expect on a flight of three (plus) hours in terms of food, amenities (kit), etc. I realize the flights are too short to have the full blown experience, but I suspect that I should be able to get a "tasting".

I appreciate any and all comments. Thanks very much in advance.

I think tfung had a report on F on this flight. You might want to take a look at it.

I've never taken F on this route. On NRT-HKG, CX does not offer any kit in F. I would think they would not on a shorter NRT-TPE. (F on NRT-HKG is specutacular, blows away JL.)

I think both CX and SQ offer similar service on this particular route. The different will be on the timing of the flight. SQ's NRT to TPE departed on the mid-morning hours on a thrice weekly schedule, and CX's NRT to TPE is a daily flight, which departs at 3pm from NRT. Both CX and SQ will offer a main meal service. For CX, you will get the canape, appetizer, soup, salad, three choices of main courses, cheese and fruit plate, and dessert. SQ's mid morning flight will have similar service. I think you will enjoy the service.
CX use a thick paper menu, and SQ offers a leather bound printed menu (which will be recollected).

SQ will offer you a slipper sock pack (nothing much), and CX does not offer any amenity kit on such short flights.

On SQ, you can get Star Alliance miles, and on CX, you can get Oneworld miles.

In terms of lounge, neither CX or SQ offer a large lounge like their home bases in HKG or SIN. The lounges in TPE are quite minimal and crowded. SQ's lounge at NRT is also a bit crowded, but a good snack selection.

I personally like the timing of CX flights.
Both CX and SQ use Boeing 747-400s with suites on this particular route.

Thanks Chiangi and Carfield, this is the type of information that I am looking for.

More responses are welcome.

I took the NRT-HKG last year in F. The suites were great but the flight was just too short to truly appreciate them. Also, no amenities or other special treatment. I continued on to AKL in F on what turned out to be the older A-340 (I think) configuration. Relatively standard layout, no suites, but outstanding amenities, including the sleeper suit I'm currently wearing. The caviar service was also to die for.

Now if I could only find an excuse to combine the two for a quick RTW...

ps. This was my 100th post to flyertalk. Hmm... To think I didn't use it to annoy someone on the BA board http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif.

I have taken F in this route on CX several times this year. Although the timings of the departure out of NRT and TPE on SQ are more convinient for me, as Carfield mentions, they operate only three times weekly. CX's daily service in F between these two cities is just so wonderful; its always empty (no more than 4 passengers in each of my 5 flights this year ), so the wonderful medley of services can be done in a very prompt manner and allows me to still take a brief nap in their wonderful suite!

If you like to savor their amazing selection of red wines, FA will be glad to open up their Lynch Bages or Gevery Chambertain to let them "breeze" upon boarding.

The service is so hospitable that I always wish this flight lasted another hour or so.

When I took this route it was the best flight I even had, I was travelling with a friend and we were alone with 4 FA's the cabin. Service was amazing. No amenity kit but on request we did get one for the collection. The stopover in TPE for the next leg to HKG was fun as we stayed on board and the crew including captain all came by and greeted us.
