I realized that the flight no longer stops in ANC for the technical stop, instead stopping in YVR. Is there any particular reason, are they allowed to pick up new passengers from YVR - HKG ?

As a result, it is cheaper for CX to use YVR as a technical stop given it is still within the same country and the new American rule does not apply. I believe Korean Airlines have also eliminated Anchorage as their technical stop due same reason as above. I bet ANC has lost alot of business as a result of this action. As usual, the eastbound flight from HKG to YYZ is nonstop for the winter. As of this point, CX is not picking up any extra passengers at Vancouver. I don't see the reason because CX had a daily night-time nonstop flight to HKG from YVR. But there is a crew change for sure. Carfield daniellam Nov 23, 01, 7:36 pm Although it is VERY UNLIKELY it will happen (OR NEVER WILL HAPPEN), it would be great if CX got traffic rights from the Canadian government to offer service between YVR-YYZ-YVR just like YVR-JFK-YVR. (Toronto bound pax from HKG will clear customs/immigration at YVR and re-board with the remainder of the flight being domestic). Odin Nov 23, 01, 10:59 pm Since Star Alliance's AC dominates the Canadian domestic market, it would be nice if CX is allowed to do the YYZ-YVR leg and challenge AC. CX will probably kick some b**t! daniellam Nov 23, 01, 11:09 pm CX will probably kick some b**t![/B] Yeah, especially with the seat-back video screens in Economy Class, and the "Lunch" in First Class that makes you feel full and not want to have dinner. (I skipped dinner when I flew F YVR-JFK) fakecd Nov 23, 01, 11:50 pm Well, Canadian government is very conservative and ineffective, and when it comes to issues with the aviation industry in Canada, they will receive a grade of C-. Just recall 2 years ago when CP/AMR deal was taking place, the government imposed so much restrictions in the industry, and now they are paying the big price under monopolized market of AC. So frankly speaking, I don't think it will happen, but it sure will be nice to see CX flying this route! But we shouldn't hope too much - why would the government want to add additional strain to AC when the industry is already crippled? Contrary to your explanation above, when I flew YYZ-HKG via ANC last year, all passengers had to disembark at ANC anyway and mingle the duty free shops in the middle of the night. So I don't think the Sep11 incident changed much... Yes, that flight goes through YVR but does not show up on CRS screens as the 'third' CX flight to/from HKG! You'll find out if the above is true if you do. |
