As much as AA is a member of Oneworld, this post does NOT belong to the Cathay Pacific post unless that flight in question had a codeshare with a CX flight number.

This piece of news has already been reported many times over at the AA forum and the FT Community forum. So there is no need to repeat it here.

Oh TUT TUT
so who made you king of the Net and CX mediator guardian ??
If you don't like it, don't read it
I am sure the people browsing the post at the time would immediately surf elsewhere to find out the story since everyone is not as well informed as you tell us you are

I don't mean to mean CX's mediator, but then again, this particular piece of news has been posted ALL over the FT board.

If we have a regular generic aircraft operating a 747 that hsa an incidence, do you want to read that piece of news in every FT thread just because that airline operates a 747 fleet?

i agree with guy betsy. there is a place for everything. this is not the place for an AA flight crash discussion. FOOLIO

OH YEAH, WELL -------
GUY BETSY Topic: "Betsy J's " - my suggestion for CX's new J class seats to be called What do you think? We can then just ask questions like: Is my SFO flight on xxx going to be a Betsy J.? How many Betsy J's now? As opposed to : How many aircrafts have the new CX new Business Class seats? (NO- REALLY WE SHOULD CALL THEM GUY B'S BECAUSE YOU THOUGHT OF IT OR RATHER, HOW ABOUT CUTTING THAT DOWN TO JUST B-J SEATS AND DROP THE BETSY ?)

AIRLINE November 12, 2001 Dear Travel Agent, As a valued CXcyberAgent, we wanted to give you an update on two special offers exclusively for travel agents... GET A FREE COMPAQ iPAQ POCKET PC FOR SELLING CATHAY PACIFIC!! Just sell as few as four qualifying Cathay Pacific First or Business Class ------------------
BJ Yes, some of us know already but this post doesn't serve the purpose of being in a FlyerTalk post.
(HERE WE GO AGAIN, GUY BETSY THE NET GUARDIAN)
3544QUEBEC I would presume that AIRLINE posted the info for those of us who didn't know and thanks for that.
(EXACTLY)
BJ The information posted by AIRLINE is meant for travel agents only. It does not serve us any good as the 'double miles' mentioned is for the travel agent doing the booking and NOT for us the traveller.

3544QUEBEC Personally, I prefer to make my own mind up as to what serves me good and what is relevant to me, rather than having someone else feel they can decide for me.
(I TOTALLY AGREE)

AIRLINE The purpose of the post was to advise those of you who fly CX that your Travel Agent may be influenced to book CX over another carrier because of incentives. CX is one of the few (if any) airlines that awards frequent flyer mileage to travel agents for booking customers on their airline. Frankly, the amount of mileage that CX offers agents is so high, that after booking 4 round-trip business class tickets, they have a free ticket themselves. What should happen is that CX should reduce the fare to the person actually paying for the ticket by the amount it costs CX to purchase AA Aadvantage miles. This is on top of the commission already paid by CX. The post is to inform those flyers what's occuring in the marketplace. If it doesn't interest you, then move on to the next post...no big deal.

WELL I GOTTA SAY THAT I AGREE WITH 3544QUEBEC AND AIRLINE !

BJ As one of the few travel agents on FT let me say a few things about this. First, as a travel professional, -------------- 8) Being a travel agent isn't a glamorous job. It's just something that I like to do because it's challenging. I have other businesses that permit to travel full fare and not have to rely on an AD ticket. That said, after being in the business for over 12 years

BJ Preferred suppliers for any additional commissions are not for airlines. Not anymore. There are caps now. Occasionally one goes towards a consolidator which may be able to offer slight discounts over published fares or websites, but there is a lot of work for minimal returns. It's not the same in this industry when I first started 14 years ago. I still like it though because it's challenging.

Hey there GB - BJ , is one side talking to the other here - is it 12 years or 14 years or did you take time out ? are you a traveller like us or a travel agent heavily reliant on CX bookings as I see you don't seem to appear elsewhere other than a couple of oneworld shots (where you talk about your flights on UA and JAL) Frankly I agree with 3544quebec and Airline above, if it doesn't interest you , then move on - no big deal - what does not interest you might interest some lesser perfectionist mortal - personally I have been flying CX for 33+ years and MPO member for 21 , Diamond for , I can't remember, and I do not need to hassle the MPO Desk Maybe it's the Italian in you as spoken by the Filipinos on the MPO desk?

BJ I guess since I'm in the travel business, I expect some sort of expertise being that I am the perfectionist that I am. Sadly, it usually cannot be found at the Marco Polo Desk. I've only spoken to one person - by the name of Danial, who is usually on night duty in HongKong because he speaks Italian - (maybe he IS Italian), who has fielded my requests with professionalism and courtesy... and I can understand him! ---- I like CX - but due to the inconsistencies of flight departures now, I'd rather just avoid it for the time being and try new airlines. Like JAL next week to SFO. AFter this blows out, then I'd come back to my favourite airline.

HAVE A NICE DAY

What the....? I got about 5 words of that.

My opinion. Is it relevant to CX flyers? Yes. Last time an AA plane went down in New York, there was a nationwide grounding...including Cathay aircraft. As it was, Kennedy was shut down for a while. I don't know the proximity of the accident to either the arrival or departure of the flight in from or out to Hong Kong, but it had a better than average chance of being affected. Not to mention, anyone connecting in or out on American. Should the post have been made? I don't know, but probably not. I chose not to read it until it lingered on for 2 weeks.

How about we all get back to Cathay talk again. Recently flew 30K miles on them on a 744, 333, 744, 342, 333, 744, 744, and 744 respectively, and they were all perfect. Will post a trip report or ten when I can.

Good times.

Eloquence? What's eloquence?

About time some people start using the tools of making your words actually make sense, namely punctuation and sentence breaks.

There are people who appreciate my efforts on FT.

That said, CX is my carrier of choice. Just got off LAX-HKG. Bought a Y ticket but customer relations upgraded me to J based on space availabilty. Flight was empty so I got an empty seat next to me. Excellent crew and the F/A (ISM) decided that she wanted to serve me anything from the First Class menu upon request. So I got the wonton noodles and seafood congee plus the usual Business Class fare. She even slipped in a glass of Krug....

Gee I dunno why, maybe she reads this post?

Also Y class ticket between HKG-SIN, but got upgraded there too.

how can such a fine airline not have power jacks in business class? It doesnt make any sense to me.

The lack of ANY kind of power jacks in ANY class of the 747 is the only thing which I don't like about flying CX. They have them on the Airbus jets, so obviously CX decided to take that option when they ordered their AB jets. Why not refit the 747's with power?? Even if CX didn't want to put them in coach, like so many US carriers have, at least put them into First/Business.
