Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - 10 destinations suspended...
it's clear that the management is not going to give in to the pilots' demands...

In view of the aftermath of the typhoon and the AOA's escalating industrial action, we have proactively decided to make temporary reductions in our operating schedule. We are doing this until we can be sure of operating a reliable, albeit reduced, schedule for our passengers. This is only a temporary measure and we will restore a full schedule as soon as we can.
The reduced schedule will come into effect from tomorrow 8 July. The schedule represents approximately 80% of our current operation. This will be operated by a combination of our own aircraft, supplemented by the chartered aircraft and extra flights mounted by other carriers at our request.
Unfortunately the reduced schedule means our
services to a number of destinations will be temporarily suspended. Suspended destinations include Adelaide, Cairns, Colombo, Delhi, Hanoi, Karachi, Manchester, New York, Penang, and Perth. There are of course a number of passengers who are already booked with us to these destinations. We will make every effort to transfer these bookings to other carriers.
In addition, we are reducing frequencies on a number of other routes. Let me repeat this reduction is only intended to be a temporary measure. We will announce the full schedule in detail over the next few days. Once again thank you very much for attending.

I wonder how long these suspensions will last?
I am booked July 25 JFK-HKG in First for an anniversary trip to Bali and really would not like to be inconvenienced.
Should I be requesting re-routes now?
i am not sure how long these suspensions will last...but i have heard that CX has informed key travel agent partners to stop selling seats on flights to Europe and North America until at least mid-month...
but i am sure CX would take good care of you...a friend of mine traveling on oneworld RTW LAX-HKG-LHR with only ~10 hours in HKG got re-routed LAX-LHR direct, although this is probably not officially allowed by the fare rule (2 transatlantic and no transpacific)...
Cellisvae, are you on a revenue or an award ticket ??

Cellisvae, I don't know where you're starting from - but if you can get to HKG, the worst thing that's likely is you'll be 8 hours late into DPS. There's lots of ways to get there from HKG. Besides Garuda (don't know if they have the equipment, but likely would be glad to add a flight if they did) there's SQ and TG through their home ports. We've flown there in early August 3 years running (and are just a few days in your trail this year) and without counting noses it seemed that the many flights were just comfortably almost-full, i.e. between the choices I mentioned there's likely to be room for CX pax.
The big problem may be getting to HKG if the posting about not taking bookings on the longhauls is correct. That surprises me - you'd think they'd put their longhauls at the top of their "must operate" list. But maybe being so far from home it's harder to keep control of crew health.

Thanks for your input so far, but it's the long haul to HKG I'm most worried about. I am thinking of changing to flying AA from JFK-YVR and hopefully CX will have seats for YVR-HKG.

For the past two days, after Typhoon Utor passed through the region, HK international airport is just going through the repurcussions. Flights in and out of HongKong are all delayed. Expect ripple effects to last another day or so. My Dragonair flight was delayed for 12 hours from Hangzhou into HK today. Boy does HK airport look like a war zone. People sleeping on the floor everywhere!
As for the Cathay Pacific pilot situation, it doesn't look good. Neither side is caving in and Cathay has even asked all local HK travel agents to stop taking new bookings on all flights between HK and Europe, North America and some regional flights too. So if any of you try to check for availability on any CX flights between now and mid July to or from the above destinations, you'd see 0 availability on all flights. Call and check with CX reservations instead.

Wow, this situation is really getting worst. NYC is axed and some passsengers will possibly get to reroute through UA nonstop or through YVR, SFO and LAX.
Hanoi -- Doesn't Vietnam Airlines operate a couple of its own flights into Hanoi, too?

cx would treat you the same whatever ticket you have. (but a confirmed reservation is the key)
the main difference is how much itis going to cost CX.
e.g. the RTW lax-hkg-lhr into lax-lhr, cx probably profit form the re-route (at least not losing much). since it is 2 long haul coupoons vs one (but US-UK is so much more expensive..so i said probably)
e.g. many people going, e.g. jfk-hkg-penang, is re-routed to SQ jfk-sin-penang. in that case cx is paying. cx actually give you a whole list of alternative and you can pick your prefernce to re-ruote!
(e.g. u can choose SQ/BR/CI/MH to go to penang in that case....) the agent has a printed list of schedules for you to choose form -- of course, availability is not guaranteed
The issue that has not been brought up is, how about the MILES??? Do we earn miles/status if we are rebooked or endorced to the other carreers?? I would hope so...
i would think so...from my experience two years ago when the pilots were sick (which according to them, was not an industrial action)...i took a CX flight that was operated by another airline (i don't remember which), but i did get the correct Asia Miles automatically...
ok here's the official words:
